NCERT Class 6 English Grammar Perfect Continuous Tenses
NCERT Class 6 English Grammar Perfect Continuous Tenses: Continuous tense is a tense of verbs used to describe on-going actions.
Depending on the period of the event, the continuous tense can be divided into three categories:
1) Present Perfect Continuous tense
2) Past Perfect Continuous tense
3) Future Perfect Continuous tense
1.) Present Perfect Continuous tense
The present perfect progressive tense shows that something started in the past and is continuously ongoing in the present.
Present Continuous Tense Structure
Positive – Subject + am/is/are + present participle (verb+ing) + the rest of the sentence.
Example- I have been learning classical dance for 5 years.
She has been studying in US since 2021
Negative – Subject + am/is/are + not+present participle (verb+ing) + the rest of the sentence.
Example – Radha is not studying since noon.
Interrogative – Am/is/are + subject + present participle (verb+ing) + the rest of the sentence?
Example- Since when have you been learning to sing?
For how long have you been teaching students?
2.) Past Perfect Continuous tense
The past perfect continuous tense is typically used to describe an action that began at some time in the past and continued until a particular point or time in the past.
Past Continuous Tense Structure
Positive -Subject + was/were + present participle (verb+ing) + the rest of the sentence
Example- I was doing assignments.
Sahil was learning to ride a bike.
Negative – Subject + was/were + not + present participle (verb+ing) + the rest of the sentence.
Example- I was not doing assignments.
Sahil was not learning to ride a bike.
Interrogative – Was/were + subject + present participle (verb+ing) + the rest of the sentence.
Example- Was Sahil playing guitar?
Was Radha driving a car?
Negative Interrogative – Wasn’t/weren’t + subject + present participle (verb+ing) + the rest of the sentence.
Example- Were you not playing chess again ? or weren’t you playing chess again?
Was I not learning to dance? Or Wasn’t I learning to dance?
3.) Future Perfect Continuous tense
The verb tense known as future perfect continuous can be used to discuss an action that will go on until a specific time in the future.
Future Continuous Tense Structure
Positive – Subject + will + have + been + present participle of the main verb + the rest of the sentence
Example- I will have been learning dance for 2 years.
Negative -Subject + will + not + have +been + present participle of the main verb + the rest of the sentence
Example- I will not have been learning dance for 2 years.
Interrogative – Will + subject + have + been + present participle of the main verb + the rest of the sentence.
Example- Will I have been learning dance for 2 years?
Negative Interrogative –Will + subject + not + have + been + present participle of the main verb the rest of the sentence.
Example- Will I not have been learning dance for 2 years?
