NCERT Class 6 English Grammar Interjection: An interjection is a word used to describe sudden emotions such as joy,surprise, fear, grief, anger, love and other emotions.
Words like wow, ouch, hurrah, oh, and hooray are interjections.
Words like help, beware, and stop (usually verbs) can be used as interjections.
Use of Interjections in sentences.
Surprise – Interjections like What, Oh no, Oh, Eh etc.
Example-
What! You are not coming to the party.
Ohh! You failed the entrance exam.
Attention-
Interjections like Excuse me, Hey, Listen, Hello, Hush etc
Example-
Excuse Me ! Please give me a side.
Hush ! Please keep silent.
Sorrow– Interjections like Ouch! Oops! Ah, Oww, Aww,
Example-
Aww ! Poor hungry bird
Alas ! We couldn’t win the tournament trophy.
Oww ! I missed my flight.
Greetings –
Interjections like Hello, Hey, Good Morning, Good Evening etc.
Example-
Hi, I am Sahil.
Hi, How are you doing?
Good morning !
Hey ! Welcome to the party.
Happiness –
Interjections like yay, yippie etc
Example-
Hurray ! We are going on vacation.
Wow! What a cute pup.
Yay ! We completed the task on time.
Hurrah, I won the beauty contest.
Aha! Your bird is singing.
Anger –
Interjections like Aw, urgh, boo, grr,
Example-
Shut up! And focus on your work.
What ! How could you lie to me?
Fear –
Interjections like Ahh, Aah Hmm, Uh, Huh
Example-
Huh ! Please forgive him.
Ok ! I am sorry for what I did.
