Measurement of length

Activity 1:

Form a group in a class-room. Later everyone measured the length of a class-room by their footstep. What will be the group observation? Some students footstep measurement near about same but some students measurement are not same.

Why does it happen? Because every student’s footstep are not same.

Hence to measure any class or area we used inch scale or meter scale for accurate reading.

In classroom, teacher give some different objects to students like book, pencil, chock etc . And told them to measure this object with the help of ruler. Then one student rise his hand and asked “how to measure object using ruler scale.” Then teacher teaches to all how to measure distance by ruler scale.

  • Take a scale and place at object one end.
  • Measure a distance from 0 cm to another end of a object.
  • And note down exact length of object.

Activity 2:

There are some pictures in following. Identify which scale is used to measurement of objects. Note down your observations in observation table.

Here we used different scale for measuring different objects.

To measure length we used varies device like to measuring height of body we measured in inch, for measuring cloth we used meter scale and tailor used tape scale also, ruler scale for measuring paper length. There are so many different scale is used to measurement of length.

Some conversation of length:

10mm = 1cm

100cm = 1m

1000m = 1km

Q 1. The length of duster is 10cm. Convert length of a duster into meter.

Ans : length of duster is 15cm

100cm =1m

10/100 = 0.1m

Length of duster in meter is 0.1m

Q 2. The height of building is 100m. Express it into cm.

Ans : height of building = 100m

1m = 100 cm =100 x 100 = 10000cm

Height of building = 10000cm
