Measurement of Physical Quantities

1.)

(a) The gravitational force that acts on mass is called weight. The gravitational force is different at different planets. So, the weight of the same object is different on different planets.

(b) Use an appropriate device, 2 – 3 times reading data can take to make accurate measurement in day to day affairs.

(c) The amount of matter present in a substance is called mass. Mass is a scalar quantity.

The gravitational force that acts on mass is called weight. Weight is vector quantity.

2.)

Group A Group B
(1) Velocity (c) Metre/sec
(2) Area (e) Square metre
(3) Volume (a) Litre
(4) Mass (b) Kilogram
(5) Density (d) Kilogram/cubic metre

3.)

Scalar quantity: A quantity that can be completely expressed by its magnitude alone is called a scalar quantity. Length, density, time etc are scalar quantity.

Vector Quantity: The quantity that is expressed completely only when magnitude and direction are both given is called vector quantity.

Displacement velocity are vector quantities.

4.)

Using faulty device can give us errors.

Reading incorrect data give us error measurements.

5.)

(a) It is not proper to measure quantities by using body parts as unites because body parts of different person are different weight.

(b) It is necessary to get the weight and measures standardized at regular intervals because weights and measures varies in different places of different areas
