(2.) Answer the following questions in your own words.
a) HOW IS MILK PASTEURIZED?
ANS:- Milk is pasteurized to kill any kind of harmful microorganism present in it. Pasteurization is a process in which the milk is heated to a certain temperature for a fixed period of time and then cooled. This help to kill any kind of microorganism which is present in milk.
b) WHY SHOULD WE NOT CONSUME ADULTERATED FOOD MATERIALS?
ANS:- The adulterated food materials that are added to food products have harmful effects on our bodies. For example- Pulses are mixed with kesari dal to improve the colour which can cause carcinogenic disorder and it can also affect the nervous system. We should be very careful in buying our food products.so we should not consume adulterated food materials.
c) WHAT PRECAUTIONS DO YOUR PARENTS TAKE TO KEEP FOODSTUFFS SAFE?
ANS:- The precautions to take to keep foodstuffs safe- 1. Storing grains, dals, in dry conditions and in air proof containers. 2. Making pickles and jams to increase their life. 3. Storing fruits and vegetables in proper way that is in refrigaretor.
d) HOW DOES FOOD SPOILAGE OCCUR?
ANS:- Spoilage of food caused by various factors. That is- 1.Growth of microorganisms like bacteria, fungi etc can spoil food. 2. Insects like cockroaches, rats may infect the food stuff and make them unsuitable for consumption. 3.Overcoocking is another such reason for spoilage of foods.
e) WHICH METHOD OF FOOD PRESERVATION WOULD YOU SEE?
ANS:- The method of food preservation can be used- 1. Preservation by oil and vinegar. 2. Preservation bt sugar. 3. Preservation by common salt.

a) QUALITATIVE WASTAGE OF FOOD:- Wastage of food can be qualitative and quantitative. It is caused by- 1.over coocking of food. 2. Using wrong methods of protecting food. 3. Excessive use of preservations. Qualitative wastage of food can be prevented by some steps.
b) THE COOKED RICE IS UNDERDONE:- When the coocked rice is underdone it can be used to make some foodstuff. Like as underdone rice can be used to prepare kheer.
c) THE WHEAT THAT WAS BOUGHT IS A BIT MOIST:- The wheat when that was bought was a bit moist,it could be dried under the sun to remove the moisture. Before storing it is important to remove the moisture to prevent the spoilage of wheat.
d) THE TASTE OF YOGHURT IS TOO SOUR/SLIGHTLY BITTER:- The taste of yoghurt is too sour.The first thing would be to sstore this yoghurt in cold environment to stop further souring of the yoghurt. This is used to make lassi.
E) CUT FRUITS HAVE TURNED BLACK:- Cut fruits turned black for oxidation.
(7.) Give reasons.
1.) FOOD REMAINS SAFE AT 5 DEGREE CELCIUS:- Food remains safe at 5 degree celcius because in its temperature prevents the growth of microorganisms. Their metabolic activities are inhibited at this temperature.
2.) NOWADAYS, FOOD IS SERVED BUFFET STYLE DURING LARGE GATHERINGS:- Nowadays foods are served in buffet style during large gatherings to prevent the wastage of food.
