(2) Answer the following questions.

(1) What are the provisions in a secular Constitution?

Ans. The constitutional provisions which make India a ‘secular state’ are as follows:

(i) All individuals and communities have been given freedom to practice, profess and propagate any religion.

(2) What is meant by adult franchise ?

Ans. Universal Adult Franchise means the right to vote of all the adults without the discrimination of caste, religion, sex, creed, etc. If enables the citizens to be involved in the governance of their country.

(3) What right does economic justice ensure ?


Ans. The economic justice ensures full employment, equal opportunity, social security and minimum standard of living. The concept of economic justice intersects with the idea of overall economic prosperity.

(4) How will human dignity be established in a society?

Ans. When every individual respects another and honours their freedom and rights, dignity of the individual will get established.

(4.) Explain the following concepts.
(1.) Socialist State
Ans. A Socialist state is such a state where the gap between the rich and the poor is minimum. All have a right over the wealth of the country. It is ensured that wealth is not concentrated in the hands of a few people.
(2.) Equality
Ans. Equality means that all have equal human status and there will be no discrimination based on caste, creed, race, sex etc. The gurantee of equal status means not to discriminate between people in terms of high-low, superior-inferior.
(3.) Sovereign State
Ans. The word sovereign means that a state is not under control of a foreign power. It means the ultimate autority to govern yourself. In a democracy sovereignty rests with the people.
(4.) Equality of opportunity
Ans. The premble has given great importance to equality of opportunity. All will get the opportunities for development without any discrimination.
