Ans: Diversity means a mixture of ideas,cultures,races, genders, economic statuses and other characteristics which is necessary for promoting growth and development of an individual and society.
∆ India is a diverse country:
India is a diverse country because it is the motherland of many casts, cultures, languages, traditions etc. This diversity is a mark of India’s rich cultural heritage.
- India has people who speak different languages such as Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati.
- Indians celebrate their festivals and cultural events in different ways. For example: one of the festivals of India is Pongal which is celebrated all over India. At different regions it is known by different names: It is known as Lohri in Punjab, Makar Sankranti in the North Indian states, Bihu in Assam, Pongal in South India, Hadaga in Maharashtra.
- India has geographical diversity as well. Landscapes ranging from plains, plateau, dense forests,hills,snow capped mountains ranges to deserts and a number of water bodies. This extreme diversity of physical features presents different kinds of climatic conditions for the inhabitants.

Ans: Indian society consists of people following different religions. Indian Constitution has made important provisions to ensure that all religious communities will have the freedom to worship according to their faith that means no one should be judged or discriminated on the basis of religion. This is called secularism.
∆ Principles of secularism:
India is an important secular nation of the world. India has great linguistic and religious diversity. In order to sustain this diversity in a sound and healthy manner, one has accepted the principle of secularism.
- No religion is recognized as the religion of our country.
- Every person has the freedom of worship as per their religion or the religion of their choice.
- There can be no discrimination among people on the basis of their religion. The people of all religions are treated equally by the State.
- Opportunities for education, means of livelihood and government jobs are made available to all. There is no discrimination on the basis of religion.
- There are special provisions in the Constitution for the protection of religious and linguistic minorities. Minorities are free to protect and preserve their linguistic and cultural identities. They are also free to bring about the development of their own communities through education.
The principle of secularism has helped to maintain religious harmony in Indian society.

Ans: Every person is born with some qualities and capabilities. But they are latent, they developed in a society.
- Cooperation: All societies are based on mutual cooperation between individuals and the community. The existence of the society depends on the cooperation between individuals. Cooperation is the process of sharing and helping each other in solving problems and removing difficulties. A family cannot remain together without an attitude of cooperation among its members. The same is true of society. Lack of cooperation hampers our progress. Daily life will also not run smoothly.
- Tolerance and understanding: Just Like there is cooperation in the society, so also there can be differences of opinion, disputes and conflicts. Disputes and conflicts arise when there is a lack of agreement in the opinions, ideas and views of the people. Prejudices or misconceptions about each other can also lead to conflicts. However, nobody is interested in keeping a conflict going for a long time. People find a way to solve conflicts through compromise and understanding. Thus, conflicts can end if people make efforts to understand each other and show a spirit of tolerance. An understanding attitude helps in new learning. We accept new ideas. This helps to further enrich social life. One can become more tolerant.
- An opportunity to perform different roles : In society, we play different roles. Each individual has several roles and the responsibilities and duties of every role are well-defined. While playing these roles at home and outside, we developed bonds with many people.
- Psychological development: From society one can learn their emotional capabilities and the power to think independently. It also provides the opportunity for expressing our thoughts and feelings.
- Development of inner talents/qualities: The development of our own artistic and other talents also takes place in society. Singers, musicians, social workers and others can all develop their qualities further because of the encouragement of society.
