PROBLEM SET 49
1.) How much wire will be needed to make a rectangle 7 cm long and 4 cm wide?
The rectangle is 7 cm long and 4 cm wide.
Perimeter of the rectangle = 2 × length + 2 × width
= 2 × 7 + 2 × 4
= 14 + 8 = 22
Answer = 22 cm wire will be needed.
2.) If the length of a rectangle is 20 m and its width is 12m, what is its perimeter?
The length of rectangle is 20 m
The width is 12 m
Perimeter of the rectangle = 2 × length + 2 × width
= 2 × 20 + 2 × 12
= 40 + 24 = 64 m
3.) Each side of a square is 9 m long.
Each side of a square is 9 m long
Perimeter of a square = 4 × length of one side
= 4 × 9
= 36 m
4.) If we take 4 rounds around a field that is 160 m long and 90 m wide, what is the distance we walk in kilometres?
The length of field is 160 m
The width is 90 m
So, we know it is a rectangle
Perimeter of the rectangle = 2 × length + 2 × width
= 2 × 160 + 2 × 90
= 320 + 180 = 500 m
So, if we take 4 rounds around the field, so the distance will be,
500×4 = 2000 m
1000 m = 1 km
So, 2000 m = 2km
Answer = the distance is 2 km.
5.) Sanju completes 12 rounds around a square park every day. If one side of the park is 120 m, find out in kilometres and metres the distance that Sanju covers daily.
Each side of a square park is 120 m long
Perimeter of a square = 4 × length of one side
= 4 × 120
= 480 m
Sanju completes 12 rounds everyday around the field.
So total distance he covers everyday is,
( 480 × 12 ) = 5760 m
1000 m = 1km
5760 m = 57.60 km or 57 km 60 m
Answer = sanju covers 57 km 60 m daily.
6.) The length of a rectangular plot of land is 50 m and its width is 30 m. A triple fence has to be put along its edges. If the wire costs 60 rupees per metre, what will be the total cost of the wire needed for the fence?
The length of rectangular plot of land is 50 m
The width is 30 m
Perimeter of the rectangle = 2 × length + 2 × width
= 2 × 50 + 2 × 30
= 100 + 60 = 160 m
1 meter of Wire costs 60 rupees
160 meter of wire will cost = (160 × 60 ) = 9600 rupees
Answer = total cost of the wire would be 9600 rupees.
7.) A game requires its players to run around a square playground. Each side of the playground is 20 m long. One player took 5 rounds around the playground. How many metres did he run altogether?
Each side of a playground is 20 m long
Perimeter of a square = 4 × length of one side
= 4 × 20
= 80 m
One player took 5 rounds.
So, the total distance he run = ( 80 × 5 ) = 400 m
Answer = he run 400 mm altogether.
8.) Four rounds of wire fence have to be put around a field. If the field is 60 m long and 40 m wide, how much wire will be needed?
The length of the field is 60 m
The width is 40 m
Perimeter of the rectangle = 2 × length + 2 × width
= 2 × 60 + 2 × 40
= 120 + 80 = 200 m
Round of wire fence = 4
So total amount of wire needed = ( 4 × 200 ) = 800 m
Answer = 800 m wire will be needed
9.) The sides of a triangle are 24.7cm, 20.4 cm and 10.5 cm respectively. What is the perimeter of the triangle?
The sides of a triangle are = 24.7 cm, 20.4 cm, 10.5 cm
Perimeter of a triangle = side 1 + side 2 + side 3
= 24.7 + 20.4 + 10.5 cm
= 55.6 cm
PROBLEM SET 50
1.) The length of the side of each square is given below. Find its area.
(1) 12 meters
The area of a square = length of a side × length of a side
= 12 × 12 = 144 sq meters
(2) 6 cm
The area of a square = length of a side × length of a side
= 6 × 6 = 36 sq cm
(3) 25 meters
The area of a square = length of a side × length of a side
= 25 × 25 = 625 sq meters
(4) 18 cm
The area of a square = length of a side × length of a side
= 18 × 18 = 324 sq meters
2.) If the cost of 1 sq m of a plot of land is 900 rupees, find the total cost of a plot of land that is 25 m long and 20 m broad
The length of the plot of land is 25 m
The width is 20 cm
To find out the total price of the plot we need to measure the area of the plot
Area of a rectangle = length ×breadth
= 25 × 20 = 500 sq m
Price of 1 sq m plot of land = 900 rupees
So the total price if the 500 sq m land is = ( 500 × 900 ) = 450,000 rupees
Answer = price of the plot of land is 450,000 rupees.
3.) The side of a square is 4 cm. The length of a rectangle is 8 cm and its width is 2 cm. Find the perimeter and area of both figures.
The side of a square is = 4 cm
The area of a square = length of a side × length of a side
= 4 × 4= 16 sq cm
The length of a rectangle is 8 cm and its width is 2 cm.
Area of a rectangle = length ×breadth
= 8 × 2 = 16 sq cm
4.) What will be the labour cost of laying the floor of an assembly hall that is 16 m long and 12 m wide if the cost of laying 1 sq m is 80 rupees?
The length of the hall is = 16 m
The width of the hall is = 12 m
Area of a rectangle = length ×breadth
= 16 × 12 = 192 sq m
The cost of laying 1 sq m is 80 rupees
So, the cost of laying 192 sq is = (192 × 80 ) = 15,360 rupees
Answer = the labour cost will be 15,360 rupees.
