ii.) About the poem/ poet and the title: the poem ‘Indian weavers’ is written by Sarojini Naidu which is taken from the first volume poetry ‘the golden threshold’. The poem represents metaphor for the three stages of human life birth, youth and death through its three stanzas. It explains the tireless activities of Indian weavers who weave at various seasons for different clothing materials. Weavers weave new born bay’s robes in morning, queen’s marriage veils in evening and dead man’s shroud in midnight.
The theme: the central theme of the poem is the comparison between weavers’ activities at different parts of a day and three significant stages of human life. There are two rhyming couplets in each stanza of the poem in which the rhyming schemes are as follows: aabb, ccdd, eeff.

iv.) Dear citizens of India,
We should adopt the handloom clothes made by our very own weavers. They work tirelessly for producing the handwoven clothes which is pure and comfortable. Handloom is environment friendly cotton material which reduces the fear of pollution. Using handloom creates the elegant look to everyone which shows the unique appearance overall. People can feel self-confidence and proud after wearing self-produced clothing of our country. People can surely adopt handloom clothes for long term after using it once. Using handloom products will not only create the image of using ethnic dress but also help the livelihood of numerous weavers. For the emerging craze of using fancy and branded clothes of other countries weavers are being ignored somehow for which they are facing extreme difficulties in their financial stage. The government has also implemented welfare schemes for weavers to upgrade their clothing production system. So, it is our responsibility too to enhance handloom production of our country.
v.) Poor state of weaving and weavers:
11 Jan, 2023 Maharashtra: last weekend we visited in our nearby handloom factory for reviewing their present state. It gave us a surprising view which we did not expect. Weavers do not have much work at present as consumers are more interested in using fancy branded clothes. They almost forget the purpose and importance of using our swadeshi clothes. We have spoken to some weavers presented there who seemed very worried about their industry. They do not get much work nowadays which has made it difficult to meet the basic needs of life. They get orders for some specific shops which is not enough for surviving the factory. Many weavers are even doing other odd jobs as well for fulfilling their needs. So, the government should take some initiatives as early as possible to protect our handloom industry. It is one of India’s oldest tradition which still makes people looking elegant with its unique beauty.
