Q.) Read the following proverbs. Share your views and expand the ideas.

Ans. a) Actions speak louder than words

Explanation- In the earlier times a man’s words were considered the most important and the strongest way to show that how the person is. They show their character traits as per what they say. People do what they say. What a person says we used to make an impression accordingly regarding that person that is why it is said- ‘a man of words’. But now people have become superficial and they say a lot of good things, words of high morals etc, but their deeds and actions are just the opposite of their words. Therefore these days people are judged on the basis of their actions, their actions decide how they truly are. The people who actually follow their words and execute them into actions would be considered a trustworthy human being in the real sense.

b) The Face is the index of the mind:

Explanation- A person’s face in all senses expresses and exposes the true feelings that he/she has within his/ her mind. Any feelings or emotions that goes within his mind clearly comes up on his face. A person’s face is said to be the mirror of his mind. For example if we dislike someone, how much ever we try to hide our emotions or expressions, it somehow appears on our face.

c) Speech is silver and silence is golden:

Explanation- According to this proverb silence is a priceless gift and we should try to bring it into practice. If we truly wish to be valued and respected by others, sometimes keeping quiet, listening and paying attention to others is what we all need. We have often heard this maxim that ‘Empty vessels make more noise’, it simply means people who are shallow, with little knowledge, talk maximum, and their useless chatter cause maximum hurt and anguish. So if we really wish to not hurt others and be respected by all we should learn to observe silence.

d) Argument is the worst kind of communication:

Explanation- Truly said it is, communication is the best way to relive our emotions, share our thoughts and feelings. As it is always said if you have problem with anyone try to talk it out instead of keeping the grudges within. Good communication helps in making relations better. But there is a way to communicate, if instead of communicating in a nice way, we start arguing, then there will never be any solution to any problem. Arguments lead to more problems and it gives a bad impression of the person as well.

e) The wise man has long ears and a short tongue:

Explanation- It is a kind of metaphor which emphasis on the fact that silence is golden. How well it works when we learn to stay quiet and listen to people with patience. If we listen carefully to others and say what we are supposed to say, we will always say the right thing because we have given enough thoughts before saying as we have carefully listened to the person.

He would have to be get married there, live peacefully with family in his ancestral house which seemed very limited to him and he did not wish to live that way either. Besides that he tried to kill one person in his village and left him dead in a well. Without correcting his mistake he just wanted to escape from there and start new life in disguise. He had to change his appearance and personality into an astrologer for saving himself from the captive as the result of killing someone.

vi) A simple village person came to settle in Town Hall Park in disguise to escape from his wrong doings. He got drunk, gambled, quarrelled with his companion and tried to kill him too. He stabbed the other person and left in a nearby well that day. So, he thought that the person had been died and had the load of guilt since that day. After coming to Town Hall Park he started new beginning of life as an astrologer who listen stories of people, give them advice by charging money. Just like a usual day the astrologer was about to bundle all his stuffs when Guru Nayak visited him. He identified him and convinced him not to visit his village again with false story. He was not such fancy astrologer who did not have even light for his shop and had to depend on the light of nearby shop. He was used to adjust in living with limited earnings which had no surety at all. So, readers felt sympathy for him at the beginning. For that characteristics of the astrologer he gets the sympathy of criticism from the readers.

ix) We all should know first how superstitions and ill practices of our society make us weak from within. When we do not have the strength in believing hard truths we tend to believe the false stories and illogical paths. But it will not take us any way of progress else it will limit our growth and make us weaker. So, at first I would suggest to be strong by believing on the logics. That strength of mind comes from right education. When we become capable to understand right and wrong superstitions will not overpower our minds. We have to control our mind which is in our hands only. If we focus less on the environment around ourselves and more on our inner strength we will definitely become able to eradicate superstitions or any ill practices from our society one day.

x) Listening the first stage of great communication which helps to grow any form of relationship. Without proper listening we cannot understand one’s situation, crisis, emotions and state of mind. So, we should not reach any conclusion without listening either. If we want to help someone then we must listen them first. Listening helps people to relieve their pain and burden on mind at some extent. If we listen someone with patience then we will be understand the story through which we can give any form of suggestion easily. A5) i) science and superstitions:

Science and superstitions are two opposite interrelated aspects of human life. These two factors show both positive and negative impacts through various examples. Science teach us to be logic based in our thinking and beliefs for everything. From practical learning and real life of science we understand the logic behind any certain events. On the other hand, superstitions resides within our mind when we feel weak emotionally or mentally. Superstitions are some ill beliefs which people tend to believe when they want to escape from the actual happenings. So, people should depend more on their logic based knowledge of science than blind beliefs of superstitions. Superstitions will take them backward while science will show the perfect ways of development. With the learned knowledge people should keep superstitions behind and hold the hand of science.

ii) a) actions speak louder than words.- I support this statement strongly. Words are obviously important for establishing a communication but actions are way better version of expressing intentions. If one speak beautiful words and do not follow the same words in his actions then those words will become valueless. But when one shows intentions or motives through actions that does not need any explanation for others to believe. So, one should definitely follow words and actions in parallel level for being true.

b) The face is the index of the mind.- the face of human beings is the first thing which one notice among others. We can read faces through expressions and overall appearances in certain situations. So, we must follow facial expressions of people to understand their minds.

c) Speech is silver and silence is golden.- we present speech by arranging appropriate words together for a certain event or situation. Speech can be inspirational, motivational, political, educational etc. depending upon the needs. But there comes different occasions when speech does not work at all or does not affect others. Then silence takes the stage with full power. Silence has the ultimate power to prove anything when speech becomes just combination of mere words. With silence people get chance to think by their own understanding level and points of thoughts which have greater effects.

d) Argument is the worst kind of communication.- argument is also a kind of communication which people use for their emotions. But arguments bring negative emotions with it like anger, betray, hate, doubts and oppositions which calls negative impacts too. During arguments people lose control over their heart and mind. They often use words for hurting others during argument which makes situation worse. So, we should avoid arguments as much as possible for sustaining in healthy lifestyle.

e) Attitudes are the real figure of speech.- the real attitude of people gets revealed through their words and expressions. Attitude can make one person good to some and bad to others. Positive attitude helps us to become stronger in our efforts for building healthy life. We can identify real people through their attitude towards life and others.

f) The wise man has long ears and a short tongue.- real man does not speak a lot about himself or others. People who are actually wise will listen first before speaking. They will not fight for establishing their logic instead they will be silent after telling the right point. They know the value of their words and do not comment in every scenario. In spite of having depth knowledge wise man does not show off it in front of others without any reason which reflects their great personality.
