Exercise: –
1) Remake the table taking into account relation between entries in three columns.
i | ii | ii |
Coal | Potential energy | Wind electricity plant |
Uranium | Kinetic energy | Hydro electric power plant |
Water reservoir | Nuclear energy | Thermal power plant |
Wind | Thermal energy | Nuclear power plant |
Ans: –
I | ii | iii |
Coal | Thermal energy | Thermal power plant |
Uranium | Nuclear energy | Nuclear power plant |
Water reservoir | Potential energy | Hydroelectric plant |
Wind | Kinetic energy | Wind power plant |
2) Which fuel is used in thermal power plant? What are the problems associated with this type of power generation?
Ans: – In a thermal power plant coal is the main fuel. Although it produces energy but there are some problems regarding the thermal power plant which are
- Very harmful gas like CO2, NO2, SO2 are release while burning the coal which creates many problems in our life.
- The very small particle release while burning coal which creates respiratory problem.
- If we use to much coal then one day it will be finished so we must focus on renewable source for producing electricity.
3) Other than thermal power plant, which power plants use thermal energy for power generation? In what different ways is the thermal energy obtained?
Ans: – The nuclear and solar power plant also uses thermal energy for power generation. The different ways by which the thermal energy obtained is by burning the fossil fuel like coal. The natural gas can be used and then convert the chemical energy to thermal energy. Petroleum is also helpful to produce thermal energy. The geothermal energy could be uses to produce for producing thermal energy.
4) Which type/types of power generation involve maximum number of steps of energy conversion? In which power generation is the number minimum?
Ans: – The nuclear and the thermal power generation both takes same 5 steps to conversion of energy which is maximum among the other. In solar power generation the minimum step is required.
5) Solve the following crossword puzzle.
a.) Maximum energy generation in India is done using…. energy.
b.) …… energy is a renewable source of energy
c.) Solar energy can be called…. energy.
d) …. energy of wind is used in wind mills.
e.) …. energy of water in dams is used for generation of electricity.
Ans: –
6) Explain the difference.
a.) Conventional and Non-conventional Sources of energy.
b.) Thermal electricity generation and solar thermal electricity generation.
Ans: –
a)
CONVENTIONAL SOURCES OF ENERGY |
NON-CONVENTIONAL SOURCE OF ENERGY |
The energy is produced from a long time by these sources. | The energy is produced from recent decade by these sources. |
Environment are polluted by these sources. | Environment polluted comparatively low by these sources. |
It is a costly process. | It is cheaper comparatively to conventional source. |
b)
Thermal Electricity Generation | Solar Electricity Generation |
Coal is used as fuel. | Sunlight is needed. |
It is a non-renewable source. | It is renewable source. |
Environment is polluted while coal burn. | Environment doesn’t pollute. |
7) What is meant by green energy? Which energy sources can be called as green energy sources and why? Give example.
Ans: – In which energy sources our environment doesn’t pollute then we can say this energyis a green energy.
There are various sources of green energy which are sunlight, tidal, wind etc. As by using these energy source to produce electricity there is no any pollution in the earth these are green energy.
8) Explain the following sentences.
a) Energy obtained from fossil fuels is not green energy.
b) Saving energy is the need of the hour.
Ans: –
a) Yes, energy obtained from the fossil fuels is not green energy as while producing electricity by these our environment gets polluted. And from the definition of green energy there is no such source which affect the environment so these are not green energy.
b) Saving the energy is very important for the future generations as we use most of the electricity from the non-renewable source. One day when these sources will be small as compare to our consumed then we face a huge problem so saving energy is the need of the hour.
9) Answer the following questions.
a) How can we get the required amount of energy by connecting solar panels?
Ans: – To get the sunlight the solar panels are set in a wide area where maximum times in year sunlight is reached. The solar panel are connected in series to the other in a line then we get voltage. By connection these solar panels lines more in parallel we get more energy.
b) What are the advantages and limitations of solar energy?
Ans: – The advantage of the solar energy is that their Will be no environmental damage. And this source is renewable so in future there will be no shortage of energy. It also cheaper as compared to other energy source implement.
10) Explain with diagram step-by-step energy conversion in
a) Thermal power plant.
Ans: –
b) Nuclear Power Plant.
Ans: –
c) Solar thermal power plant.
Ans: –
d) Hydroelectric power plant.
Ans: –
11) Give scientific reasons
a) The construction of turbine is different for different types of power plants.
Ans: –As we all know there are different uses of turbine for example a thermal power station uses steam turbine whereas a hydro electric power station uses the water turbine to produce electricity. These turbine after rotation produced voltage by which electricity is produce.
b) It is absolutely necessary to control the fission reaction in nuclear power plants.
Ans: – If we don’t control the fission reaction in a nuclear power plant then there will be uncontrolled fission reaction by which any plant would have any explosion.
c) Hydroelectric energy, solar energy and wind energy are called renewable energies.
Ans: – As the source of hydroelectric, solar and wind energy will be remained on the earth as it is present now so there will be no such shortage of resources. In other prospective these sources of energy don’t pollute our nature.
d) It is possible to produce energy from mw to MW using solar photovoltaic cells.
Ans: –If we keep a larger number of solar panels in series and parallel then there will be produced huge no of electricity and if there is minimum no of solar panels then there will be small no of electricity will produce so from mw to MW is possible.
12) Draw a schematic diagram of solar thermal electric energy generation.
Ans: –
13) Give your opinion about whether hydroelectric plant is environmentally friendly or not.
Ans: – From a hydroelectric power station there will be no such harmful waste release which pollute the river water or field. The other reason is there is no any possibility of dying the water while producing electricity.
13) Draw neat and labelled diagrams.
a) Energy transformation in solar thermal electric energy generation.
Ans: –
b) One solar panel produces a potential difference of 18 V and current of 3A. Describe how you can obtain a potential difference of 72 Volts and current of 9 A with a solar array using solar panels. You can use sign of a battery for a solar panel.
Ans: –
14) Write short note on Electrical energy generation and environment.
Ans: – Electrical energy is produces by using various natural recourse such as fossil fuels, tide, geothermal energy, wind, sunlight. From the source some of are renewable and some of our non-renewable. So, we have maintained the balance of while using the non-renewable resources as it is limited and it polluted our environment. We should focus on the uses on the renewable resources as it is environmentally friendly as well as its implementation cost is cheaper as compare to the others. We must focus on sustainable development while producing electrical energy that everyone be safe and should be benefited.
