CHAPTER: – 3 (LIFE PROCESSING IN LIVING ORGANISMS PART 2)

Exercise: –

1) Complete the following chart.

Ans: –

Asexual Reproduction Sexual Reproduction
1. Reproduction that occurs with the help of somatic cells is called as asexual reproduction. 1. Reproduction that occurs with the help of germ cell is sexual reproduction.
2. Its a uniparental or both the parents not needed. 2.Male and female parent are necessary for sexual reproduction.
3.This reproduction occurs with the help

of mitosis only.

3.Meosis as well as mitosis cell division are seen.
4.New individual is same as to the parents. 4.New individual formed by this method is genetically different from parents.

2.) Fill in the blanks.

In humans, sperm production occurs in the organ ——testes———-.

In humans, -y—– chromosome is responsible for maleness.

c.) In male and female reproductive system of human, —bulbourethral———- gland is same.

d.) Implantation of embryo occurs in –uterus—-

e.) —-Asexual—— type of reproduction occurs without fusion of gametes.

f.) Body breaks up into several fragments and each fragment starts to live as a new individual. This is — fragmentation– — — — — — type of reproduction.

g.) Pollen grains are formed by — –meiotic— — — — division in locales of anthers.

3.) Complete the paragraph with the help of words given in the bracket.

(Luteinizing hormone, endometrium of uterus, follicle stimulating hormone, estrogen, progesterone, corpus luteum)

Growth of follicles present in the ovary occurs under the effect of –folic stimulating hormone— This follicle secretes estrogen. — — endometrium of uterus- — — — grows / regenerates under the effect of estrogen. Under the effect of — luteinizing hormone—, fully grown-up follicle bursts, ovulation occurs and — –corpus luteum- — — is formed from remaining part of follicle. It secrets — progesterone— — — and — — estrogen– — –. Under the effect of these hormones, glands of –endometrium of uterus– — — are activated and it becomes ready for implantation.

4.) Answer the following questions in short.

a.) Explain with examples types of asexual reproduction in unicellular organism.

Ans: – There are three types of asexual reproduction in unicellular organism which are binary fission, multiple fission, budding. In binary fission the parent organism split into two parts and form daughter cell, amoeba show these characters. The multiple fission also seen in amoeba in which the parent body divided into many parts. And budding the new cell formed from the outermost part of the parent cell. Yeast reproduction is an example of budding.

b.) Explain the concept of IVF.

Ans: – When there is problem in fertility to have baby then this technology is used. Ivf or invitro fertilization the sperm is added the mother cell or egg cell from outside for fertilization.

c.) Which precautions will you follow to maintain the reproductive health?

Ans: – The precautions which must be taken to maintain the reproductive health is –

  • Balanced diet is very important.
  • Personal hygiene as well as exercise also important.
  • Be careful that taking drug is harmful.

d.) What is menstrual cycle? Describe it in brief.

Ans: – The menstrual cycle is a reproductive cycle which seen in female. This cycle occurs in 28 to 29 days for one time.

In the menstrual cycle the female body oviume is release at the middle portion of the cycle.  The luteinizing hormone and folicol stimulating hormone release in this period. The estrogen hormone is produce after this.

5.) In case of sexual reproduction, new-born show similarities about characters. Explain this statement with suitable examples.

Ans: – In a sexual reproduction the male and female gamete after fission zygote is formed. From the gamete the complete cell produced. This new individual bears the character of both mother and father. For example, we a child have mixed hair colour of black and brown as may be mother have black hair or father have brown hair or vice versa.

6.) Sketch the labelled diagrams.

c.) Flower with its sexual reproductive organs.

Ans: –

d.) Menstrual cycle.

Ans: –

7.) Give the names.

a.) Hormones related with male reproductive system.

Ans: – Testosterone hormone is a male reproductive hormone.

b.) Hormones secreted by ovary of female reproductive system.

Ans: – Estrogen and progesterone are secreted by female reproductive system.

c.) Types of twins.

Ans: – Monozygotic and dizygotic are the two types of twins.

d.) Any two sexual diseases.

Ans: – Sexual decease are shiphilis, AIDS, Gonorrhoea.

8.) Gender of child is determined by the male partner of couple. Explain with reasons whether this statement is true or false.

Ans: –Yes, the gender of a child is determined by male partner. As male has two chromosome xy and female has xx chromosome. So, mother gives just x chromosome while the father gives any of x or y chromosome.

9.) Explain asexual reproduction in plants.

Ans: – Plant show vegetative reproduction by using stem, root, leaf.  The underground stem produces a new organism by bud. Potato is the example of this reproduction. The underground stem of ginger show these types of reproduction. By using leaf asexual reproduction of plant happen.

10.) Modern techniques like surrogate mother, sperm bank and IVF technique will help the human beings. Justify this statement.

Ans: – The different technique of IVF is –

  • ZIFT or zygote intra fallopian transfer in these case male sperm and female ova are fused in laboratory then pushed in female body.
  • In intra uterine transfer more than 8 blostomere are transfer to female body uterus.
  • Sperm bank also helps in IVF.
  • The other process of IVF is surgery, gamete intra fallopian transfer, artificial insemination etc.

11.) Explain sexual reproduction in plants.

Ans: – In flower there are male and female organ which are stamen and carpel.  As we know that male and female both organs are present in flower so it called bisexual. The pollen grain from stamen and the female gamete fertilized in ovule. Then this fertilizer eggs transform to seed and this seed produce new plant.
