3.) Explain the following concepts.

(1) Right based approach

Ans) After independence progress of India was based on the democratisation.Democratisation is a system based on democratic principles, where citizens were considered as beneficiaries. But In the last few decadesafter the year 2000, the whole approach towards democratic reforms has changed.  It was seen that development is considered as the right of the citizens and according to their rights all the development programmes are being materialised by the Government.Citizens in India have got Right to Information, education and food security which have strengthened democracy in India.

(2) Right to information

Ans) Right to information was come into force in the year 2005.Transparency and accountability are the hallmarks of good governance. To make the government more transparent and toreduced the element of secrecy in the working of government the RTI act was passed. It is necessary to strengthen the Government and build up a relationship of trust between the citizens and Government.

(3) Women representation in the Loksabha

Ans) Several efforts were made for empowering women after independence. Apart from an equal share in the property of the father and husband, Dowry Prohibition Act, Domestic Violence Prohibition Act etc. in our country, from the very beginning, women have inadequate representation in politics and political institutions. 33% of seats were planned to reserve for women in local self-governing institutions after 73rd and 74th amendment of our constitution. This percentage has been raised to 50%in several states including Maharashtra. Previously in the year 1951-52 the percentage of women representation in Loksabha  was 4.50%. By increasing gradually it has become 12.15% in the year 2014.

4.) Answer in brief.

 (1) What are the effects of reducing the voting age from 21 years to 18 years ?

Ans)To increase the political participation to the young generation in India the voting age was reduced from 21 years to 18 years. It has become a large scaled qualitative change apart from quantitative change as the active support of young voters is necessary for the new emerging parties. These parties always try to fulfil the expectation of people and compete in the political sphere. For that the support of young generation is very much needed.

(2) What is meant by establishment of social justice?

Ans) Social justice is one of the important objectives of our constitution. Removing all the social conditions which are responsible for injustice is the process of the establishment of social justice. To establish this kind of social practice it is important to remove all kind of discriminations in social status such as superior or inferior on the basis of caste, religion, language and gender, place of birth, race and property. Government’s efforts and policies on this front are more important than other efforts which are to be made at all levels of society.

 (3) Which decision of the Court has resulted in protection of honour and dignity of women?

Ans) The Act against domestic violence is an important stepto protect the dignity and self-esteem of women.It hasexpanded the scope of Indian democracy and rejected traditional forms of domination and authoritarianism. Moreover the right to have an equal share in the property of the father and husband, Dowry Prohibition Act, etc. resulted in protection of honour and dignity of women.
