a) Why has mining not developed in the Western part of Brazil?
Ans) Mining has not developed in the Western part of Brazil because of the heavy rainfall and dense forests.Inaccessibility, lack of knowledge of potential reserves of resources are the another reason behind not developing mining system in the western part of Brazil. Moreover western part of Brazil are the poor reserver of various types of minerals like Iron ore, manganese, nickel, copper, bauxite, tungsten, diamonds, etc.
b) What are the similarities and differences in the fishing activities in Brazil and India?
Ans) Brazil has a sea coast of around 7,400 Km and excellent fishing grounds off the South Atlantic coast. India has about 7500 kms of coastline and excellent fishing grounds confined to coastal waters in the west from Kachchh, Malabar coast to Coromandal coast in the east.
In India fresh water fishing is available but in Brazil fresh water fishing is not available.
Swordfish, Shrimp, lobsters, sardines are mainly caught in Brazil. But India is a land of variable fishes. Here we can see sardines, mackerel, Bombay duck, prawns,horse mackerels, clupeids ,silver etc.
Similarities
Fishing plays an important role in the economy of both the countries and both the countries have excellent fishing ground.
3. Give reasons:
(a) Per capita land availability is more in Brazil as compared to India
Ans) Per capita land availability is more in Brazil as compared to India. India occupies only 2.41 per cent of the land area of the world whereas it supports 17.5 % of the world’s population. India’s average population density is 382 persons per sq.km. as per 2011 Census. Rather in Brazil the density of population is around 23 persons per sq.km and it occupies 5.6 % of world’s total land and has 2.78% of world’s total population.
(b) There is mixed economy in Brazil and India.
Ans) Brazil and India have mixed type of economy, means both private and public sector exist over there. Brazil has mining, agriculture, manufacturing, and also a strong and rapidly growing service sector. On the other hand, India is still dependent on agriculture, though service sector is also increasing in India.
