Question 1:

Find the solution of 2x – 5 = 10

(a) 15/2

(b) 7/2

(c) 5/2

(d) 9/2

Ans:

2x – 5 = 10 add 5 on both sides

2x – 5 + 5 = 10 + 5 = 2x = 15

(a) x = 15/2 by dividing 2 on both sides dividing.

Question 2:

Solve 5y/2 – 3/2 = 5/2

(a) 5/6

(b) 4/5

(c) 8/5

(d)  6/5

Ans:

5y/2 – 3/2 = 5/2 add 3/2 multiply sides we get

5y/2 = 5/3 +3/2 = 5y/2 = 8/2 multiply 2 on both sides

5y = 8

Y = 8/5 (c)

Question 3:

Solve 8x – 5/2x = 2

(a) x = 9/2

(b) x = 7/2

(c) x = ¾

(d) x = 5/4

Ans:

8x – 5/2x = 2, multiply by 2x on both side.

8x – 5 = 2 × 2x = 8x – 5 = 4x

4x = 5

=> x = 5/4 L.H.S. (d) x ≠ 5/4

Question 4:

2y + 4/3 – 2y = -3/5 solve,

(a) 25/3

(b) -29/4

(c) 3/8

(d) 27/5

Ans:

2y + 4/3 – 2y = -3/5 cross multiplication gives

5 (2y + 4) = -3 (3 – 2y)

10y + 20 = – 9 + 6y

4y = -29

(b) y = -29/4 (L.H.S .)

Question 5:

Present age of Arati and Akash are in the ratio 5/7 four years from now the ratio of their ages will be 7/9. Find the present age of Arati?

(a) 12 year

(b) 10 year

(c) 14 year

(d) 8 year

Ans:

Let the present age of Arati and Akash be 5x and 7x years. Respectively

after four years 5x + 4, 7x + 4

The ratio is 5x + 4/7x + 4 = 7/9

Cross multiplying gives, 9 (5x + 4) = 7 (7x + 4)

45x + 36 = 49x + 28

8 = 4x, x = 2

Arati’s present age = 5x

= 5 × 2 = 10 years (b)

Question 6:

Solve, x-7/3 = x-3/7

(a) 42

(b) 50

(c) 40

(d) 30

Ans:

(c) 40, x-7/3 = x-3/7 cross multiplication

7 (x – 7) = 3 (x – 3)

=> 7x – 49 = 3x – 9

=> 4x = 40,

x = 40/4

=> x = 10 L.H.S

Question 7:

Simplifying the flowing linear education:

4 (t – 4) = 5 (2t – 5)

(a) 3/2

(b) 5/2

(c) 9/2

(d) 7/1

Ans:

3/2

(a) 4 (t – 4) = 5 (2t – 5)

4t – 16 = 10t – 25

9 = 6t,

t = 3/2 L.H.S

Question 8:

Solve, 3x – 4 = 5x – 10

(a) 2

(b) 5

(c) 4

(d) 3

Ans:

(d) 3,

3x – 4 = 5x – 10

6 = 2x

x = 3 L.H.S

Question 9:

Yogesh is thrice as old as Arati. Five years ago his age was four times of arati’s age find. Yogesh’s present age?

(a) 30

(b) 20

(c) 15

(d) 25

Ans:

Arati’s present age x,

and yogesh is 3x years.

Five years age their age will be (x – 5) and (3x – 5) years.

Yogesh four times of arati’s age five years ago

Thus, 3x – 5 = 4 (x – 5)

=> 3x – 5 = 4x – 20

x = 15 = Arti’s present age is 15 (c)

Question 10:

Solve 3x = 2x + 20

(a) 40

(b) 10

(c) 20

(d) 30

Ans:

Solving 3x = 2x + 20

This 3x – 2x = 20

Equation x = 20

(c) = 20

Question 11:

Solve 3m = 5m – 8/5

(a) 4/5

(b) 6/5

(c) 3/5

(d) 9/5

Ans:

(a) 4/5

3m = 5m – 8/5  (We moves the term of variable by dividing 2 on both sides)

8/5 = 5m – 3m

8/5 = 2m

m = 8/5 × 1/2

m = 4/5 (a)

Question 12:

Solve 3y + 3/5 = 27/5 – y

(a) 2/5

(b) 21/4

(c) 27/8

(d) 21/20

Ans:

(d) 21/20,

3y + 6/5 = 27/5 – y moves the term of variable and no. for better calculation

3y + y = 27/5 – 6/5

4y = 21/5  (dividing by 4 on both sides we get)

y = 21/20

Question 13:

The perimeter of rectangle is 15 cm and its width 5/3. Find its length.

(a) 23/6

(b) 25/9

(c) 6/6

(d) 35/6

Ans:

Assume length is x cm

Perimeter of rectangle = 2 (length + width)

15 = 2 (l+ 5/3)

15 = 2l + 10/3

=> 15 – 10/3 = 2l

=> 45-10/3 = 2l

= 35/3 = 2l =>

∴ Dividing by 2 on both sides we get, l = 35/6 cm (d)

Question 14:

The number of boys and girls in the class 9:5, the number of boys 12 more than the number of girls. What is the total class strength?

(a) 40

(b) 41

(c) 42

(d) 45

Ans:

The no. of boys and girls we assume 9x and 5x.

then the equation is 9x – 5x = 12

=> 4x = 12,

x = 3 and the total strength is

14x = 14×3 = 42 (c)

Question 15:

Solve 2x/16 = 2

(a) 96

(b) 196

(c) 192

(d) 82

Ans:

2x/16 = 12 Multiplying by 16 on both sides we get

2x = 12×16

2x = 192 (dividing by 2 on both sides we get)

x = 192/2

x = 96 (a)
