The latent heat of fusion (melting) of solid is the quantity of heat in joule required to convert 1 kg of solid (at it’s melting point ) to liquid without any change in temperature.
The latent heat of fusion of ice is 3.34×10^5J/kg. It means that 3.34×10^5J/kg Joules of heat is required to change 1kg of ice at its melting point of 0°C has 3.34×10^5 joules of less heat than 1 kg water at the same temperature of 0°C.
2) Latent heat of vaporization
Heat required to convert a liquid into vapour state. (or)
The latent heat of vaporization of a liquid is quantity of heat in joules required to convert 1kg of liquid (at its boiling point) to vapour or gas without any change in temperature.
The latent heat of vaporization Of water is 22.5×10^5 J/kg. It means that 22.5×10^5 J/kg of joules of heat is required to change 1 kg of water at its boiling point of water 100°C
Of its steam at the same temperature (100°C) this means that 1kg of water at 100°C has 22.5 ×10^5 J/kg joules of less heat than 1 kg of steam at same temperature of 100 °C.
