1) Answer each of the following questions in a sentence or two :
1.) Why is October 2 a special day in the history of India?
Answer: October 2 is a special day in the history of India because two great leaders i.e. Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastry were born on that day.
2.) Where did Lal Bahadur have his education after his studies at school?
Answer: Lal Bahadur Shastry had his education at Kashi Vidyapita in Varanasi.
3.) Name at least two positions that Lal Bahadur held as an administrator.
Answer: Lal Bahadur held the positions of Railway Minister, Home Minister and also the Prime Minister.
4.) Why do you think Lal Bahadur refused to stay at home even during the days of parole?
Answer: Lal Bahadur was granted parole to see his daughter who was ill. After her death, he decided to return to prison even though he had three or four days left of the parole. He thought that staying back would mean wrong, so returned.
5.) When did Lal Bahadur resign his post as the Railway Minister? What was the reason he gave for this act?
Answer: After the Arialur Railway accident, he accepted moral responsibility and resigned from the post of the Railway Minister.
6.) How did he respond to Pakistan’s attack?
Answer: He gave freedom to the Army to take action against Pakistan. He declared that force will be met with force.

1.) Give an account of Lal Bahadur’s education.
Answer: Lal Bahadur had his school education in Mughal Sarai. After that he went to Varanasi and studied at Kashi Vidyapita in Varanasi. There he studied for four years. He was bright in subjects like Philosophy, Economics, Political Science and Social Science. He also got the degree ‘’Shastry” while studying at Kashi Vidyapita.
2.) Narrate any one incident from Lal Bahadur’s life which highlights his honesty.
Answer: Once, Lal Bahadur’s daughter was ailing with small pox. It was a dreadful condition that time. He was in prison at that time. He was granted parole and went home to see his daughter. Unfortunately, his daughter died on the same day. He performed the obsequies. Even though he had three or four days left on parole, he didn’t stay back. He decided to back to the prison. This incident shows how Lal Bahadur was honest that despite his personal loss, he went back to prison.
