1.) What is the effect of the song of the choristers on the listeners?
Answer: Choristers are the first to rise. They go round the Ashram, singing their morning
hymn. One can hear the voices in the distance, drawing nearer and nearer. The beauty of the sound in the silent morning air and the sense of joy and reverence which it brings, give peace to the soul.
2.) How are the classes held in the afternoon in Shantiniketan?
Answer: The classes begin about two o’clock in the afternoon. Handiwork is practiced. The work is mainly with hands as well as with the mind. Boys practice carpentry, mechanical work, spinning and weaving, drafting, painting, music as per their tastes and preferences.
3.) How do the boys spend their evenings in Shantiniketan?
Answer: The boys return from the field in the evenings. Then they mediate in silence. They tell fairy tales, recite short dramas, sing their Gurudeva’s songs. Also different school gatherings are held.
4.) How are the classes at Shantiniketan different from the classes in other schools?
Answer: The classes at Shantiniketan are quite different from the classes in other schools. Here there are no typical classes. The boys sit with their teachers, in the open air, under
the trees. There are no larger classes. A group of eight or ten boys are seated round the teacher, asking him questions. Very few books are used. The main part is based on the conversation. Boys learn to open out all their difficulties to their teachers and teachers keenly listen to their questions and answer them accordingly. In this school, the boys get to learn according to their choices unlike other typical schools.
5.) How does Shantiniketan prepare the boys for life?
Answer: In Shantiniketan, the boys get to learn many things. They learn according to their choices which give them freedom to learn what they like. The boys are developed in emotional and spiritual way also. They recite poems, share short stories and dramas which make them introduce with the world of literature. By opening up about their problems and finding its solution by their teachers, they learn how to deal with practical problems of their lives.

C5) Write a paragraph describing your idea of a good school.
Answer: A good school should not only have a good infrastructure but also good teachers. It should focus on students’ skills and talents. It should make the students to explore more about life. Also the teachers should motivate their students to do be a good citizen more than just scoring good marks. They should teach them how to deal with problems of life and not just dealing with mathematical problems of the book. A good school should strive best to make their students choose their field and shine in their field.
