SOMEBODY’S MOTHER

1.) What kind of a woman do you find in this poem?
Answer: The woman in this poem is old and bent. She was weak.
2.) Where was the woman standing? Why was she standing there?
Answer: The woman was standing at the crossing. She was standing there to cross the road to go to the other side.
3.) Why was the woman very anxious?
Answer: The woman was very anxious because she had waited for long time but no one helped her to cross the road.
4.) What are the children compared to?
Answer: The children are compared to the flock of sheep.
5.) Did the boys lend the old woman a helping hand?
Answer: No, the boys didn’t lend the old woman a helping hand.
6.) Why was the old woman hesitating to cross the street?
Answer: The old woman hesitated to cross the street because she thought that she would come under the wheels of the carriage or the horses’ feet in that slippery street.

1.) How did the boy help the old woman?
Answer: The boy went near the old woman and asked her if he could help her cross the road. The old man then placed her hands on his arms. He very carefully helped her cross the road.
2.) What made the boy happy?
Answer: The boy felt happy because he had helped the old woman to cross the street.
3.) What did the boy tell his friends?
Answer: The boy was sensitive one and told his friends that the old woman was somebody’s mother. Though she is aged, poor and slow but she too needs somebody to help her. He told them that he had helped the old woman hoping that somebody will help his mother too when she will be old.
4.) What did the old woman say in her prayers that night? Why?
Answer: The old woman prayed to the God to be kind to the noble boy who helped her crossing the street. She was deeply touched by the boy’s gesture.
5.) Do you like this poem? Why or why not?
Answer: Yes, I like this poem. This poem teaches us to help those in need and be kind to everyone.
