A LETTER FROM OBAMA TO HIS DAUGHTERS

 

C1.) Discuss the following questions in groups and answer them :

 

1.) How old were Obama’s daughters when he wrote this letter to them?

Answer: When Obama wrote this letter to his daughters, his daughter Malia was 10 years oldand Sasha was 7 years old.

 

2.) What fun did Obama’s daughters have when he was on the campaign trial?

Answer: Obama’s daughters went to picnics and parades and state fairs, ate all sorts of junk food when he was on the campaign trial.

 

3.) What is the ‘journey’ that Obama is referring to?

Answer: Obama is referring to his years of campaigning elected for president ship.

 

4.) What fun did his daughters have when he was campaigning for the elections?

Answer:  Obama’s daughters had lot of fun when he was campaigning for the elections. They went to picnics and parades and state fairs. They ate all sorts of junk food and had fun with their new puppy.

 

5.) What, for Obama, is the greatest joy in life?

Answer: The joy Obama saw in his daughters was the greatest joy in life.

 

6.) What did he think as a young man?

Answer:  When Obama was a young man, he thought that life was all about him. It was about how he would make his way in the world, become successful and get the things that he wanted.

 

7.) What did he realize after the birth of his daughters?

Answer: After the birth of his daughters, he realized that his own life was not important than that of his daughters. For him his daughters’ happiness matter more than anything else.

 

8.) Why did he contest for the President’s post?

Answer: Obama contested for the President’s post because he wanted the same thing for every child in the nation that which he wanted for his daughters.

 

9.) What does he expect his daughters to do?

Answer: Obama expects his daughters to grow up in a world with no limits on their dreams and no achievements beyond their reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world.

 

10.) What is the ‘great adventure’ referred to in the letter?

Answer: Obama refers to the contesting for the president post as the ‘great adventure.’

1.) How did Obama’s daughters change his view of the world?

Answer: Before the birth of Obama’s daughters, he thought that life was about him and how to make his way in his life. But after the birth of his daughters, his perception towards the life changed. Their mischief and smiles filled his heart with happiness. His big plans didn’t matter to him anymore and he found that his greatest joy lied in his daughters.

 

2.) What does Obama want for all the children?

Answer: Obama wants all the children to get their education irrespective of their economic background. He wants them to have good jobs, jobs that would pay them well.

 

3.) Why did Obama write this letter to his daughters?

Answer: Obama wrote this letter to his daughters because he wanted to tell them why he decided to contest for President’s post.

 

4.) How do you feel when you read this letter?

Answer: I feel emotional and inspiring after reading this letter.

 

5.) Which line appeals to you the most in this letter?

Answer:  But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. The above lines appealed to me the most.

I’m in VI standard now. I’m doing well in my studies. I take part in different activities in my school. You know, I am selected as the monitor of the class. Grandpa, your pappu will make you feel proud and happy always.

All is well at home. How’s grandma? Don’t worry, we’ll come there during Deepavali holidays. Let’s enjoy then!
