Karnataka Board Class 9 Economics Chapter 1 Natural Resources Solution
Fill in the Blanks:
(1.) Natural Resources are materials of nature
(2.)The resource that reproduce within a specified time span are Renewable Resources
(3.)Iron ore is non renewable resource
(4.) Scarcity arises when the need for resource is scare than availability of it
(5.) Developoment emphazing the availability of resources to meet the needs of future generation is also called as conservation of resources
(6.) In 2010, the mankind used artificial intelligence Earth to meet their requirement
II (1) What are natural resource?
ANS: Natural Resource is a type of resource that we get from nature and even valuable in natural form.
(Q2.) Give two examples of renewable resource ?
Ans: The two examples of renewable resource are
- land
- sunlight
Q3. Give two examples of abiotic resources?
ANS: Air & Soil are two abiotic resources.
Q4.What is conservation ?
ANS: Conservation means prevention of wasteful use of resource
Q5.Define ecological footprint ?
Ans: The WORLD WILDLIFE FUND {WWF} has devised a measure is known as ecological footprint.
Q6. What is recycling?
ANS: Recycling means the action of converting waste into reusable material.
III. (1) Differentiate between renewable and non renewable resource?
ANS:
RENEWABLE |
Non- RENEWABLE |
1.Renewable resources cannot be depleted over time |
1. Non renewable can be depleted over time. |
2.They are also called non exhaustible resource |
2. They are called exhaustible resource |
3.EG. Water & air |
3.Eg. Copper & gold |
Q2. Explain the causes for increasing scarcity of resources?
Ans: The causes for increasing scarcity of resource are as follow:
(i) Overpopulation: Increasing population means requirement of more and more land for agriculture , commercial & for industrial purposes
(ii) Growing Industrialization : increase in industrialization leads to increase in minerals ,crude oil and water an automatically resulting in emptying of mines, oils and water resources.
(iii) Expanding urban area : in urban area large population lives together and its needs large amount of resources for their daily life, which ultimately leads to scarcity of resources.
(iv) Water Pollution & Land Degradation: water and land quality is reduced due to dumping of various waste from hospitals as well as from household to near by water bodies and land fills.
Q3.What are 4RS? Explain in brief.
ANS: The 4Rs are as follow:
- REDUCE: we should reduce the use of harmful and limited resources.
- REUSE: we must use things which can be used multiple times
- RESEARCH: researching ways to find renewable alternatives to non- renewable resources
- RECAHARGE AND REGENERATE: This is the process through which allow resource to go through consicious.
Q4. What steps would you take to conserve energy in your school and at home.
Ans: The steps we will take to conserve energy at our school are as follow:
- Install timed taps
- Use LED lighting
- Draught proof doors & windows
Steps to conserve energy at home:
- Turn of lights when they are not in use
- Use LED bulbs
- Do not let the tap open while brushing our teeth.
Q5. What measures will you take to reduce ecological footprint?
ANS: The steps taken to reduce ecological footprint are as follow:
Eat at home instead of going out
Reduce the consumption of meat and dairy products
We must take our own bags to store
Avoiding drinking juice box, make a habit of having a piece of fruit.
