1.) Australia is known as the flattest continent. Why?
Answer –The total land surface in Australia 94% is less then 600 mt above sea level, comprising of flat low land. Therefore Australia is known as the flattest continent.
2.) Explain the location and extent of Australia.
Answer –Australia is located completely in the Southern and the Eastern Hemisphere between 10°46, and 43°39. The Tropic of Capricorn passes approximately through the central part of the continent. Australia is the smallest continent both in terms of area and population. Australia is bigger than India and smaller than USA. Its coastal line is 19,310 km long.
3.) What are the major physical divisions of Australia?
Answer – The Eastern Highlands, The Plateau Lowlands, The Western Plateau are the major physical divisions of Australia.
4.) Write short note in River Systems of Australia.
Answer – Australia has very few rivers. The Murrary is the most important river in Australia. The river Mitchel, Gilbert and Flinders in the north eastern part, flow towards north west and join Gulf of Carpentaria. The Daly, Victoria, west Flitzeroy and others flow northward and north westward and joins the Timor sea. The River cooper creek, Diamantina and Mucumba drain into Lake Eyre. Rivers Murchison, Avon, Black Wood etc. drain into the Indian Ocean.
