The five characteristics of a computer are as follows :-
i) Automation :- Computers can automatically perform the given task. Once data
and necessary instructions are stored into the computer memory, human
intervention is not required. Some jobs such as searching from a large repository of
data (or from Internet) are nearly impossible without automation.
ii) Accuracy :- Computers are able to perform complex arithmetic and logical
computations with the highest accuracy. Properly designed computers provide
highly accurate results. However, it is obvious that garbage (bad) results are
produced by garbage (bad) input entered knowingly or unknowingly. This is called
Garbage In Garbage Out (GIGO).
iii) Long-term storage :- Computers can store large amount of data in its secondary
storage for long time. The stored content can be recalled easily on request. Unless
specifically asked, the content will be preserved in the memory.
iv) Ability to perform mechanical and repetitive tasks :- Computers are able to
perform mechanical tasks in consistent manner. They do not possess human
oriented limitation such as loss of interest, likings, and physical capacity.
v) Speed :- Computers works at a very fast speed which means it can carry out
millions of instructions per second. The computers speed is measured in
nanoseconds (1 nanosecond = 1×10 seconds) and picosecond (1 picosecond =

unnecessary movement of cursor, creates disturbances in the working of mouse
properly.

design of keyboards, computer desks, chairs and other things at the workplace.
f) Solution:

i) Monitor placements :- The monitor should be kept in such a manner that the
topper part of it should come in direction with the eyelevel or lower it. To rise the
monitor at the proper level, we ca make use of the monitor stand.
ii) Avoid wrist strain/pain :- While typing on the keyboard, keep you elbow level to
the keyboard, and the wrists higher than the fingers. Don’t move the mouse by your
