Indian History Essay : India is a land of diversity and its history of India dates back several centuries back. After years of being subjected to colonial rule, India got its independence in 1947 from the shackles of British rule. The movement of freedom struggle has witnessed a series of historic events, with all the movements having the same aim of ostracizing the British rule out of India. British rule in India began in the year 1757 after the triumphant victory in the Battle of Plassey and it finally came to an end in 1947. Presently India has 28 states and 8 Union Territories. Every state and Union Territory is marked by a separate culture, demography, history, festivals, rituals, traditions, thoughts, beliefs and culture.

Tangible heritage refers to the archaeological sites, artefacts, historical monuments and objects that bear significance to a community, humanity and the nation. Multiple architectural gems are found all around the nation. The top cultural heritage sites of India are the Taj Mahal in Agra, Hampi in Karnataka, Ajanta Caves in Aurangabad, Kaziranga National Park in Assam, Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, Sun Temple in Konark and many others. For instance, the Mountain Railway of India comprises the Kalka-Shimla Railway, Darjeeling Himalayan Rail and the Nilgiri Mountain Railway which forms the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kaziranga National Park comprises a wide range of fauna and flora. One can come across a herd of one-horned rhinoceros, tigers, and deer and the presence of lush greenery enthrals the visitors all the more. Intangible heritage:

On the other hand, intangible heritage refers to the culture, knowledge, practices and skills that are deeply ingrained in Indian history. Indian music and dance forms are one of the unspoken traditions that have gained prominence all over the world. Carnatic and the Hindustani music system are the two forms of classical music in India. In addition, the Bharatiya Natya Shastra influenced Indian culture. Every Indian music shares an association with Indian mythology. For instance, the flute is associated with Lord Krishna and Veena is associated with Lord Saraswati. It is believed that in the 14th century, Amir Khusrao devised this instrument. Furthermore, Indian dances are regarded as one of the most appealing forms of intangible heritage. The various types of classical dance forms depict some mythology tales and are famous since time immemorial. The language, themes, dressing styles, costumes, and makeup, denote the tradition and the culture. For instance, Kathak, one of the eminent dance forms of Northern India depict the mythological stories of Lord Krishna and Shiva. It has been practised in India since medieval times mostly influenced by the Krishna culture.
