Types of Cloning

There are 2 types of cloning, the therapeutic and  reproductive cloning. In therapeutic cloning the embryo is not transferred in the womb or the mother, where is in reproductive cloning the embryo is transferred in the womb of the mother.

Usefulness of cloning

Embryonic stem cells can be used to produce organs, tissues or repair the damaged ones. Skin, brain, hearts, lungs and kidneys etc can be produced utilising these cells. Sicknesses such as Alzheimers and Parkinsons disease can also be cured with the help of cloning. Cloning can be helpful in genetics. This reducing the chances of transplant or organs and saving lives of many.

Researchers can easily clone the organism as per their requirements. These organisms can be used for the purpose of scientific research. The process of healing and recovery can be made faster with the help of the individual’s own cell.

Another important ethical problem is that religious groups are of the opinion that cloning is against God creation and nature, as the clone would be created by human beings.

Cloning is a quitean expensive process and requires researchers the supply of human eggs more frequently. Where as a normal healthy woman usually produces one or two mature eggs. But, in order to increase the number significantly, doses of stimulatory medications which are used in IVF procedures must be given to the woman.

In some cases, these drugs can lead to liver damage, kidney failure or heart stroke. Such drugs are known to increase the risk of ovarian cancer as well. In fact, the surgery to retrieve the eggs also has high risk or leading to damage and causing deformation in the egg.

Conclusion

Cloning is a vast topic and can lead to most useful research which can also help cancer patients to survive longer and recover them completely. However, restrictions on cloning can limit the important research and progress in this field.Reproductive cloning must be banned completely due to ethical and health concerns. However, research on therapeutic cloning can be carried out under strict restrictions, regulations supervision. This will help humans , researchers, animals and other species to avail the benefits of cloning.
