Gujarat Board Class 9 Computer Chapter 3 Input and Output Devices Solution:

1) List popular input devices Explain structure of a typical keyboard

 Ans:-   Mouse, Keyboard, Scanner, Barcode scanner, MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition), Microphone etc. are some the popular input devices.

The structure of Keyboard  is as followed:

i) Alphabet keys:- There are 26 alphabet or letter keys on the keyboard from A to Z.

ii) Number Keys:- There are 0-9 number keys on the keyboard. Number keys are used to enter numbers in computer.

iii) Function keys:- There are 12 function keys from F1 – F12 on the keyboard which is used to perform  various functions. It is mostly helpful in Tally (accountimg software package).

iv) Enter key:- This key is used to take the cursor to a new line.

v) Spacebar key.:- This is the longest key on the keyboard, which is used to add a space between a character or words.

vi) Backspace key:- This key is used to delete the word/alphabet and Move the cursor one step back.

vii) Caps lock:- This key is used to type any character/word in uppercase. When  the key is on a light on the keyboard is on,  which means the caps lock  function is ON and when the light is off indicates the caps lock fuction is OFF.

viii) Esc key:- To cancel the  execution

ix) Shift Key:- There are 2 shift keys on the keyboard., which is used with a combination of other keys on the keyboard for typing capital letters or special characters.

x) Arrow keys:- There are 4 arrow keys on the keyboard for moving the cursor in Up, Down, Right and Left direction. Arrow keys are also known as Cursor keys.

2) What is a point and draw device? Give an example of it.

Ans:-  without typing, you can select some items from the computer screen like print or close button, or you can draw lines, curves and shapes with the help of the devices like mouse, joystick, touchpad, trackball etc.

3) What are the typical mouse actions? List and explain n brief.

Ans:-   The typical mouse actions are as follows:-

i) left click:- is used to select any application/program.

ii) Double click:- Pressing of the mouse buttons for two time is termed as Double click. By double clicking you can open any selected item/program

iii) Right click:- right click is used to show some commands and options that are available.

iv) Drag and drop:- You can easily select any item and move it from one place to another.

v) Scroll:- when the length size of the page is big, Scroll wheel is used to move the page in up and down direction or by pressing the scroll bars present/available at right hand side of any program.

4) List the popular output device? Explain various types of printers.

Ans:- Some of the popular output device s are Monitor, Projectors, printers, plotters, speakers etc. and some types of printers are as followed:-

i) Inkjet printers:- this type of printers prints the contents by spraying the small dots of ink. They are slower that dot matrix printers.

ii) Dot matrix printers:- dot matrix printers print content charcter by characters on the paper. This printers are very cheap and slow. Dot matrix printers are also known as character printers.

iii) Line printers:- such type of printers prints line by line

iv) Laser printers:- laser printers creates / shows the image of the full page and prints it at a time by using laser technology. As they are compared with other printers such printers are fastest and costly printers.

5) Which different types of monitors do you know? List all with one line description of each.

 Ans:-  CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) and flat monitors are the different types of monitors:-

i) Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitors:- CRT monitors are very big in size and weight. They are used for displaying information to the user. They are the oldest type of monitors.

ii) Flat monitors:- As compared to CRT monitors, flat monitors are very thin in size and lighter in weight. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and LED (Light Emitting Diode) are some of the examples of flat monitors.
