(1) Answer the following questions in details.
(i) What is meant by resource ? Describe its usages.
Ans: The things on which the man is depend human needs can be fulfilled by them and man has the physical and intellectual capacity to utilize them can be called as resource.
Uses of Resources : Resources are useful to us in many ways.
(a) Resource – As food : Food requirements of man are complied by various resources. Fruits, crops obtained through agriculture, milk and milk products and meat, fish, honey etc. are used as food items.
(b) Resource – As a source of raw material : Goods obtained from forests, Agro-products, Wool, meat, mineral are etc from the raw material for many industries.
(c) Resources – As energy Resources : We use coal, petroleum, Natural gas etc. as fuel in industries.
(ii) What is meant by soil conservation ? State the remedies of soil conservation.
Ans: Soil conservation means to prevent the soil erosion and to maintain soil quality.
Remedies of soil conservation :
(a) The roots of the trees in forest cover hold up the soil particles.
(b) Plant trees in the rivers gorges and on mountain slopes.
(c) A series of trees be grow near a descent region to prevent the winds with more velocity.
(d) The river floods should be controlled by diverting their flow in other river.
(e) The unrestricted pasturing loosens the soil layer on the mountains.
(f) Humus contents be added to the soil can be conserved.
(g) The conversation of soil is a strong necessity today.
(2) Answer the following questions as directed.
(i) Describe the process of soil formation and state on which basis these are classified ?
Ans: The part of surface of the earth where in the vegetation grow is called as soil. Soil is thin layer composed of various elements on the surface of the earth. Minerals, humidity, humus and air are mix in the soil. Soil is formed due to material available through the denudation. Biotic remnants, humidity and air mix up with it. Soil is natural mixture of minerals and biotic elements which have the growing capacity and develop vegetation.
Soil are classified on the basis of their :-
(a) Color
(b) Climate
(c) Parental rock
(d) Structure
(e) Humus etc.
(ii) Write notes on Alluvial soil.
Ans: Alluvial soil : This type of soil is spread 43% of total area of India. This soil is found in the northern plain from the Brahmaputra Valley. Satluj in the west and delta regious of Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri rivers. The formation of alluvial soil is alluvial deposition by the rivers. There is more proportion of potash, phosphoric acid and limestone in this soil and there is less proportion of nitrogen and Humus. If pulses are grow in these soil nitrogen content can be stabilized. Wheat, paddy, sugarcane, maize, cotton can be grow in this soil.
(iii) Write notes on Black soil .
Ans: Black soil covers 15% total area of India. This soil was form due to spreading of Deccan Lava. This soil found in entire Maharashtra, western Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka. In Gujarat, Surat, Narmada, Tapi and Dang districts have this type of soil. Lava rocks and climate play an important role in the formation of black soil. There is more proportion of Iron, lime, calcium, potash, aluminum and magnesium carbonate in this type soil. It is consider to be quite fertile, cotton, linseed, mustard, groundnut, tobacco and udad grow in this soil.
(3) Answer the following question in brief.
(i) State the remedies to prevent soil erosion.

Remedies to prevent soil Erosion :
(a) Control the grazing activity on the land.
(b) Plantation should be carried out in contour method in sloppy regions.
(c) Plant trees in follow land.
(d) Construct check dams where are streams.
(e) Cultivate very deeply in the field to reduce the speed of the water.
(ii) What is called as mountain soil ?
Ans: Mountain soil is found in the valley and sloppy regions of Himalayas at an altitude of about 2700 to 3000 meters. It is layer is very thin and underdeveloped. This soil found in Assam, Darjeeling, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir.
(iii) Write short note about the desert soil.
Ans: This type soil seen in the area of where the climate is arid or semi arid. The soil is sandy and infertile it curtains more dissolve minerals. Rajasthan, Haryana and southern Punjab have this type of soil in Gujarat this type of soil found in Kachchh and with irrigation facilities millet and Jawar can be cultivate in this soil.
