Essay on Global warming and international cooperation for Class 10, 12, Mains Exam (UPSC, PSC, SSC)
Global warming and international cooperation Essay : Global warming happens when carbon dioxide and other air pollutants such as methane oxide, methane, and fluorinated gases get assembled in the atmosphere. These pollutants are absorbing solar radiation making the Earth warmer than before, thereby leading to global warming. One of the most adverse effects of global warming is an increase in the temperatures and over the last 100 years, the average annual temperature has increased by 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit. Increased temperatures lead to intense storms, droughts and floods which is a fearsome threat to human civilisation. Even the rate of wildlife extinction rate has also increased as an impact of globalisation. To address this, the Indian Governmnet launched the National Action Policy on Climatic Change which strives to work with the global community and it has taken the oath to reduce carbon emissions.
Discussion
The National Clean Air Programme was launched in 2019 to lessen the quantity of particulate matter that is released into the atmosphere. In addition, the Union Ministry of Environment launched the Green Skill Development Program to foster green skills among people to provide them employment in the forest and environment sector. The government has further committed to obtaining fifty per cent of energy from renewable sources of energy and reducing carbon emissions by one billion tonnes in 2030. A global movement was also initiated by the government to direct sustainable development for the environment. By doing so, the government has taken a major step in curbing the effect of global warming. Furthermore, the government launched a scheme for faster adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles in 2015 to reduce the consumption of fuel.
India in 2015 initiated the International Solar Alliance an international coalition of nations that can cake climatic change by balancing the power of solar energy. Furthermore, the government has also taken the oath of ensuring that all vehicles will run on electricity and this will be fulfilled by 2030. The Climatic and Clean Air Coalition of which India is a part along with 65 other countries is committed to taking effective action to mitigate the climatic pollutant comprising hydrofluorocarbons, methane and black carbon. This implies that India is taking an ethical step towards reducing the impact of harmful gases on the environment. Another initiative is the COP26 Glasgow summit to lessen the carbon intensity and take over non-fossil fuel energy.
It is also to be noted that India is one of the leading contributors of chlorofluorocarbons which ultimately creates ozone layer depletion finally bringing about a climatic change. As a result, the government has signed the global emission protocol, which has determined to eradicate 97.5 per cent of hydrofluorocarbons by 2030.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it can be said that the planet is being jeopardised due to global warming. Every country in the world is seriously concerned about mitigating the impact of greenhouse gases which is threatening the planet. Similarly, the Indian government has taken effective measures to combat global warming. For instance, it has joined hands with the COP26 Glasgow summit to reduce the impact of carbon dioxide. In addition, it has launched the National Clean Air Program so that it can make the environment carbon free by 2030.
