Fahrenheit to Celsius Formula

Conversion of Fahrenheit to Celsius:

Thermometry is the branch of science in which temperature and its measurement would be done. Generally, thermometer is used for temperature measurement. And the SI unit of temperature is Kelvin or °C.

But, to measure temperature most commonly used scales are Fahrenheit scale and Celsius scale.

  • In Celsius scale, the melting point of ice is taken as 0°C and boiling point of water is taken as 100°C which are taken at NTP.

In this interval of 0°C to 100°C there are 100 equal parts and each part takes the value 1°C.

  • While in case of Fahrenheit scale, melting point of ice is taken as 32°F and boiling point of water is taken as 212°F. And in between 32°F and 212°F three are 180 equal parts, and each part is called°F.

  • The basic formula used for converting degree Fahrenheit into degree Celsius and degree Celsius into degree Fahrenheit is as follows.

C/5 = (F – 32)/ 9

For example:

  • If we have to convert 100°F into degree Celsius then,

C/5 = (100-32)/9

C/5 = 68/9

C = (68*5)/9

C= 37.77°

Thus, we got

100°F = 37.77°C

 

  • Again if we have to convert 120°F into degree Celsius then we proceed as,

C/5 = (120-32)/9

C/5 = 88/9

C= (88*5)/9

C= 48.88°

Thus we got,

120°F = 48.88°C

 

  • If we have to convert 2120F into degree Celsius then,

C/5 = (212 – 32)/9

C/5 = 180/9

C/5 = 20

C = 1000

Thus, we got

2120F = 1000C

 

  • Also, if we have to convert 300°F into degree Celsius then,

C/5 = (300-32)/9

C/5 = 268/9

C= (268*5)/9

C= 148.88°

Thus, we got

300°F = 148.88°C

 

In this way, we can easily convert temperature from degree Fahrenheit to degree Celsius and vice versa by using the single formula.
