Unity in diversity can be defined as a concept that implies unity among individuals who are heterogenous. Heterogenous individuals are those who are from different nations or of the same nation, of different religion, caste, creed, sex, culture, traditions, customs, rituals, and linguistic backgrounds. India is a home to 139 crore people who do not share uniformity in all the above-mentioned aspect. Unity in diversity- has led to the moral and ethical evolution of mankind. People all around the world have been consistent in following this concept as it has not been redundant to them.
Advantages:
The concept of unity in diversity existed in our world since times immemorial and this comes into being in workplaces, schools, religious organizations, other public places etc. People of different races, culture, caste, creed, language, beliefs, notions, traditions, customs, work together in unison. They share their ideas and thoughts with one another and accepts the views or opinions of others. This in turns helps in developing brotherhood, tolerance and harmony amongst one and the other. Conviviality and sociality are the favorable outcomes that rule the concept of -unity is diversity.
The world is getting globalized due the unity in people sharing diverse beliefs and notions. Trading between one country with the other country has become possible because of this. Inventions in technology, medicine and developments in various areas such as literature, culture, social work has become possible due to intermingling of people sharing diversity. The concept enables people to think globally and act in unity. Critical issues, when discussed, gets resolved and the chances of getting into conflict gets reduced. By signing treatise and pacts between two parties or nations, many international conflicts were stopped from happening. In ancient India, Mughal Emperor Akbar married Hindu women owing to his love for Hindu culture. The European Union and the Canadian government adopted the concept and this leads to multiculturalism. Unity in diversity fosters the spirit of spirit of teamwork, cooperation, patience and tolerance among colleagues in workplace and students in education institutions.
Disadvantages:
There are certain demerits pertaining to this concept. Unity in diversity can give rise to social disputes among people from various regions owing to their different culture, tradition and linguistic background. It leads to corruption in political and social spheres. In rural areas, it may give rise to illiteracy and poor standard of living due to improper infrastructural facilities.
Conclusion:
The religious, global, emotional, cultural and political unity and language integration gave rise to the notion of unity in diversity. In India it has been prevalent since the time, Aryans, Huns, Scythians and Greek invaded India. All of these races contributed to the development of India in the ancient times. People of different class, caste, race, religion, thoughts and beliefs are eternally connected despite having nuances in all these aspects. This helps a nation to progress successfully. India stands out as the best epitome of unity in diversity among all the other nations of the world. Owing to the distinction in languages spoken, beliefs, custom, caste and class, India has succeeded in uniting and in the future days it will make noticeable progress.
