The modern world today cannot progress at a rapid pace without the use of internet. Previously, it was a luxury, but now it has become a necessity in almost every household. Internet for the students has a plethora of uses. Students can access internet for accumulating information related to their academics and for updating themselves regarding current affairs. They can enrich their already existing knowledge by embedding new information into their brain gathered from the internet. Few years back, having internet access for the middle-class families was cumbersome. However, recently, with the introduction of affordable broadband packages, many middle-class families can avail internet access. Students from those families can make the best use of internet for their education benefits. But as we all know, too much of anything is not good. Similarly, it should be kept in mind that students should not be given unlimited access to internet.
How students are benefitted from using internet?
Internet plays a quintessential role in the lives of students nowadays. Besides looking up for information from books, they can browse variety of sites on the internet which in turn broaden their horizon of knowledge. They can also download variety of apps from google play store from where they can prepare answers for their projects, school examinations and various other competitive examinations. Byjus, Vedantu, Gradeup, Unacademy etc. to name a few. Answering objective and subjective type questions, solving mathematical calculations become hassle free for them. They can also have access to e-library which is not at all time-consuming. Commuting to libraries would not have otherwise saved time for them.
Reasons for limiting internet access:
Accessing internet by the students have certain disadvantages as well for which it should made limited for the students. Besides being a boon for the students, internet has proven to be a bane as well. Students, a times, in the name of studying spend too much time on internet. This weaken their familial bond and they end up being lazy creatures. Instead of indulging in physical activities, they play online games. Certain games offer money as rewards, as a result of which they get awfully addicted. Sitting for hours in front of computer leads to physical disorders such as headache and back ache. Games such as Momo, blue whale, took a toll on the lives of teenagers in the years 2017-2018. Social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram, affects the mental health of students as they get emotionally attached in making new friends. As a result of this, students lack communication skills in real and are much likely to confine themselves within their rooms.

Students are falling prey to the various social networking, gaming offered by the internet. They are easily lured by the not-so-important contents which are primarily satisfying them. Notwithstanding the toxic nature of the internet, they are getting addicted to it. Hence there is a dire urgency to limit the use of internet for the students. In this regard parents can play a major role by keeping an eye on their wards. Students should be encouraged to have access to books and libraries instead of browsing internet for every single need. By this, the lives of students can be made much better and easier, thus bringing in their overall development.
