Seven Wonders of the World Essay: Our world is a vast place filled with different kinds of structure, monuments, and architectures, in both natural and manmade forms. Our earth itself is a significant place of various wonders. If we see deeply we can find in small things and feel happy from within. Like the feeling of cold breeze in scorching heat, the musky scent of oil after the fresh shower, first snowfall in hilly region, mist in early morning everything are wonders of the earth. Till there are objects as wonders around us which bring encouragement and pride feeling with the existence of those wonders which has made our world a great place to live in. We can find world famous and magnificent tombs, churches, temples, buildings, historical sites, mosques, cities, statues and villages. All the structures carry brief history of its building and purpose with it. This monument fill us with surprise and explain to us many unknown history which happened before our existence. We often feel awestruck in mind by seeing the perfection and excellence in the inherent and outside beauty of these creations. From the numerous examples of wonderful monuments only seven have been chosen as Seven Wonders of the World and included in the specific list. In this essay, we are going to know detail about features, characteristics and specifications of all the seven wonders in the world.
Seven Wonders of the World:
The Seven Wonders of the World is a remarkable ancient list of excellent monuments and marvellous architectural sites which is known since the Hellenistic period during the reign of alexander the great. All the seven wonders of the world are as follows: the Great Wall of China, Chichen Itza, Petra, MachuPicchu, Christ the Redeemer, Colosseum, Taj Mahal.
- The great wall of china:
The Great Wall of China is one of the largest historical constructions in the world which is approximately 5,500 miles long. Though a disputed Chinese research remarked the length as 13,170 miles later. Two millennia of work came into force when the major project started in 7th century BCE and built by qin dynasty and ming dynasty. The name is wall but we can find two parallel walls are designed together covering major portions. The greatest barrier of the world is also dotted with other watchtowers and barracks nearby. Its effectiveness is not that much terrific comparatively to other works and its expectation. The wall was constructed to thwart other attacks and invasions of enemies at that time. But it failed to provide complete security as needed. Researchers have highlighted on the fact that it became more as political propaganda in existence than anything.
- Chichenitza:
Chichenitza is a mayan metropolis built in the 9th and 10th centuries CE within Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. Numerous other significant architectures and temples were built by the mayan tribe itza who were extremely influenced by the toltecs. The castle which is 79 feet high over the main plaza is the most prominent of all. This construction contains total 365 steps counting the number of days in a solar year, also a monument of the mayan’s astrological prowess. Both the spring and fall equinoxes create shadows over the pyramid which appears as a serpent sliding down the north stairs and a stone snake head is located at the base. The largest tlachtli in the entire America can be found in chichenitza. Local people often engage in a ritual ball game which was common throughout pre-Columbian Mesoamerica on the field.
- Petra:
The Jordanian city of Petra was formed in a lonely valley within cliffs and mountains sideways. It is one of the locations where moses struck a rock supposedly and water sprang through it. Later it became the capital of the nabataeans, an Arab tribe which flourished as a significant trading hub specifically for spices. The nabataeans tribe was skilled carvers who carved temples, homes, tombs into sandstone which was changed with the waning light. They also built a water system with which cultivation and developing lush gardens became possible.
- Machu picchu:
It is an Incan site close to Cuzco, Peru in 1911 built by Incan empire. This monument was shattered in 2000 when a crane for its advertisement fell. Machu picchu is one of the few unearthed pre-Columbian ruins which has remained intact. We can find residential neighbourhood, temples, plazas, agricultural terraces despite having seclusion height in the AndesMountains.
- Christ redeemer:
Mount Corcovado is the home of the massive statue of Jesus Christ the redeemer located at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The beginning of the statue was just after World War I when some people feared about godlessness. Heitor da silva costa, carlosowald and paullandowski designed the statue with the suggestion of people. The construction process began in 1926 and ended in 1927. Finally it was formed as 26 feet high around, 98 feet of the monument and outstretched arms are 92 feet long. It is the world’s largest art deco sculpture covering ix million tiles. A storm in 2014 injured the tip of Jesus’s right thumb.
- Colosseum:
The roman emperor Vespasian gave the order first to build colosseum in the first century. Its dimensions are 620 by 513 feet which is a sophisticated vaulting system. This engineering marvel could accommodate 50,000 spectators to enjoy different events. The gladiator bout were the most famous though men fighting animals was also widely known. It had occasional water pumped for fictitious naval battles. An estimated 500,000 people were perished in the colosseum.
- Taj Mahal:
Taj Mahal is the most wonderful architecture in Agra, India built by emperor shah Jahan of Mughal Empire. Emperor Shah Jahan built it in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal on her burial tomb after she passed away in 1631 while giving birth to their 14th child. The complex includes lavish garden with a reflecting pool in the middle which was built for 22 years by 20000 employees. The mausoleum was built with white marble, semiprecious stones with geometric and floral motifs. There are four smaller domes encircled the grand dome in middle. Taj Mahal is pride for Indians which is carrying rich historical and cultural heritage for years.

Seven Wonders of the World is the selected most beautiful archaeological, historical and architectural sites in all over the world. After long research and discussions only seven monuments are chosen for including in the wonder list. Students must know details about all the specific features lie within these wonderful construction. It will enhance their knowledge and encourage to know about the heritage sites more deeply.
