Sadly, it is the girl child who is the victim of discrimination as in the existence of a patriarchal society, it is the girl child who is the worst sufferer. We live in a world, where the male child is given undue importance because they are thought to be the save the lineage. Contrary to this, a girl child is regarded as a burden for the family and in order to get rid of them, female foeticide and female infanticide take place in some numbers, mostly in remote areas. In addition, girl children are not given proper education, instead, they are married off at an early age.

Girl child are vulnerable to discrimination for which their lives have become woeful since the time they are born. To save the girl child and to create awareness among the masses regarding the protection of girl children, the government of India has launched the Beti bachao Beti Padhao scheme, Sukanaya Samriddhi Yojana, Balika Samriddhi Yojana, Mukhyamantri Rajashree Yojana and many others. All these schemes have their own significance. For instance, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme challenges the notions of the deeply rooted patriarchal system, which was initiated in January 2015. It was founded by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.  The objectives of this scheme were to prevent gender-biased selective discrimination.  In addition, it also aimed to ensure the survival of the girl child and increase their participation in education and sports. Furthermore, the Sukanya Samridhhi Yojana is an important governmnet savings scheme with the aim to support the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme. This SSY or the Sukanya Samridhhi Yojana Scheme can be used by the guardian or the parent of a girl child who is 10 years of age or below.  In addition, it offers high rates of interest to the girls along with a variety of other tax benefits.

From the discussion above it can be said that a girl child to deserves a better life in the same way a boy child does. She shall be loved and taken care of by her parents and guardians. There is also an urgent need for equal participation of boys and girls in the fields of sports and education. It is also to note that crime against female act as a barrier to the development of the nation. For this reason, the government is taking action to curb the menace of killing girl children and making the utmost efforts to save their lives.

To conclude it can be said that, it is a must to save the girl child and this initiative shall start from our homes. Increasing awareness shall be created to stop menaces such as female foeticide and female infanticide,  as this is the first and most significant step to save the girl child. The parents and the family members shall wholeheartedly participate. The other steps that can be taken by the family are educating the girl child, granting her wishes and giving them equal privileges to that of a boy child.
