The most unexpected thing that happens to pedestrians, drivers and motorists is road accidents. It is observed that the pedestrians are well aware of the traffic rules and the guidelines however it is the reckless drivers and motorist who is responsible for causing most road accidents. The most common human behaviours that cause road accidents are overspeeding, distraction to drivers, drunken driving, flouting traffic rules and avoidance of safety gear such as helmets and seat belts.
Most fatal accidents happen due to overspeeding as it is common human psyche to overtake and outpace the other drivers. Thus the increase in speed doubles the number of accidents, thus higher the speed greater the risk of accidents. Another cause of accidents is drunken driving. Alcohol distracts concentration and thus drunk drivers cannot concentrate on driving and so accidents take place. The vision gets blurred due to dizziness caused by alcohol and thus the drivers cannot decide on the right track to driving the cars. The distraction caused to the driver is another cause of road accidents. The act of talking over the phone while driving, adjusting mirrors, trying to save animals on the roads, and getting tempted or distracted by billboards also lead to a road accident. Furthermore, many drivers are of the notion that jumping or avoiding the red light saves time. While doing so, they engage themselves in perilous accidents and with the worsening of the situation, they might also have to face death. Avoidance of wearing seat belts and helmets also increases the chance of road accidents. As per Rule, 133 (3) Of the Central Motor Vehicles Rule (CMVR) drivers including the persons who are seated in the front seat or facing the rear seats are required to wear seat belts. Failure to do so can impose a fine of Rs 1000 on the person who wishes to flout or dissent from the rules.
