Children all across the world are vulnerable to violation in the form of sexual, physical and psychological abuse. There are many causes that increases the child’s subjectivity to such kind of abuse. A child who is orphaned, abandoned or homeless are vulnerable to such perilous conditions. Child exploitation and abuse creates trauma and affects their development and well -being. The consequences of this trauma leavea serious impact on their lives in the long run. The affected children face difficulty in getting education and to make matters worse some even become prone to drugs and alcohols. Adults play a vital role in supporting children with trust and affection. Children depend on adults who their care and concern and for seeking protection.
Why should we save childhood?
Every child has the right to survive peacefully and with full dignity. They have the right to belong, to be loved, to be protected and to be heard. Parents and the caregivers have the responsibility to provide a safe and loving home to the children. Schools and communities have the responsibility of providing a safe environment to the students.Unfortunately, there are many children across the world who are unprotected.Instead of enjoying their childhood, there are over 160 million of children who work to earn their living. Girls mostly work as domestic labours in domestic homes and many of them become trafficked every year.
1.) Every child should be given the opportunity to grow up in their family. If such a condition does not exist, concern ed communities should address the problem and take initiatives to keep the family together.
2.) Every child has the right to a name and a nationality. This ensures that the child has the right to education and healthcare services.
3.) Girls and boys must be protected from all forms of abuse such as child labour, trafficking, slavery, etc.
4.) Precautions must be taken to protect boys and girls from sexual abuse and exploitation. They should be taught about good touch and bad touch right from the primary school.
5.) The government should take initiatives to stop child trafficking and child labour. Justice should be served to the children based on child rights.
Child protection systems helps the child to get access to fair justice and social service. The child protection system prioritizes mental, physical and psychological health of the children. Studies show that child maltreatment has connections with severe mental and health outcomes whose negative effects can last for a lifetime. The impact of child abuse can also have negative impact on the other communities.
Child protection laws in India:
- The protection of children from sexual offense,2012: This law combats sexual violence against children below the age of 12.
- The criminal law Act,2013: This law states the punishment of a rapist who commits crime to a female below 16 years age.
- The juvenile justice act:This law deals with the care and protection of children and cater to their needs. They address matters in the best interest of the children.

Saving childhood is a part of the safeguarding process. Children are our future generation so it is the duty of the families, parents, communities and government to protect them and cater to their interest and needs in the best possible way.
