India is an incredible country of a plethora of rich resources and colossal talents. It has made noteworthy contributions to the world since times immemorial. As opined by Albert Einstein “We owe a lot to the Indians, who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made.” India has treasured most valuable materials that is needed for the benefit of human beings. India has contributed significantly to the world in areas of science, technology, education, medicine, wisdom, administration, architecture, games, music, textile, wellbeing, mathematics, mining and linguistics. India has gained paramount importance and earned extreme respect in the world for its ocean of contributions.
India’s significant contributions:
India’s contributions have gone a long way to improve the lifestyles of human beings. The laudable contributions are discussed below:
1.) Mathematics: Mathematician Aryabhatta was the first person to invent a symbol for zero. Addition and subtraction also used the digit zero. The binary numbers 0 and 1 was invented by Pingala, the Vedic scholar.Fibonacci numbers was introduced by Virahanka much before the discovery of the Italian Fibonacci system. The theory of atom was discovered by Kanad. The Harrapan excavations shows linear measures made of ivory and shell. The decimal system of expressing numbers was also introduced first in India. Budhayana first calculated the value of pi.
2.) Linguistics: Astadhyayi and Panini introduced formal grammar of Sanskrit by formal productions of definitions and rules.
3.) Medicine: Ayurveda was one of the oldest medicinal forms introduced in India. Ayurveda used herbs to cure diseases. Homeopathy was the other form of medicine introduced having no side effects. Physician Sushruta first performed cataract operation in India. Many Greek scientists travelled to India to learn about this. Dentistry using bow drills was practiced. The cure for leprosy was found in Indian medical study.
4.) Administration: A system of democratic republic (Janapada) and local government or municipality was found during the reigns of Maurya. Arthasahtra introduced the concept of passports in India.
5.) Games: Chaturanga or chess was first played in India during the reign of the Guptas. Snake and ladders or vaikunta pali was a game played based on morality. Ludo or pachisi was started in India in the 6th century. The Ajanta caves bear the depiction of this game. The game of dice was started in India and the proof of such is found at excavated sites of Mohenjodaro.
6.) Mining: Diamond mining and zinc mining were first performed in India. Golconda was the first center for diamond in India. Rajasthan had zinc mining sites that flourished during the Christian era.
7.) Well-being: The practice of meditation and yoga was originated in ancient India. It heals the physical and mental health of mankind.
8.) Education: Takshila, the world’s first university was introduced in India in 700BC. It imparted education in 60 subjects to students worldwide. The Nalanda University also benefitted many learners from abroad.
9.) Science and technology:Bhaskaracharya first calculated the time taken by earth to revolve around the sun much before astronomer Smart did. Microwave communication was invented by the renowned scientist Jagadish Chandra Bose. Vinod Dham invented Intel Pentium Microprocessor chip. Fibric optic technology was first introduced in India.
10.) Music: Samaveda has records of ancient melodies and chants in the world.
11.) Textile production: A fine muslin textile jamdani and buttons made from seashell were first used in India.
12.) Architecture: Delhi was the first city to have iron pillars in the world. Stupa, a monument reserving relics was found first in India.
13.) Vedas: Vedas originated in ancient India. It shows us the path to attain real knowledge and constitute the oldest form of Sanskrit literature.
14.) Upanishads: The aim of Upanishad is to explore the nature of one self, which also originated in India. It envisages the connection between the humanity and the cosmos.

The world has prospered economically, technologically, culturally and socially due to India’s contribution.
