Article 21 A of Indian Constitution, states that the state shall provide free and compulsory education to all children in the age group of 6-14 years. Every one has the right to education irrespective of gender, caste, creed, religion, social and economic status. Education plays a crucial role in developing an individual. It also brings development of the world where we live in. Education helps in curbing serious conundrums such as poverty and unemployment. Over the last few years, the education industry has become corrupted. Many private organizations are unethically charging fees from students in the name of providing education. Education should be made hassle free, every one should have free access to it till school level. On the other hand, the private owned institutions can charge minimum fees from the students. Students from poor economic background shall be given free access to education till 10+2 level. Educated people can together work for a happy, healthy and a prosperous life.
Reasons for implementing free education:
Education ought to be made free for the students who dwell from poor economic background. They cannot avail education for being poor or even in some cases they work from a tender age in order to help their family. These children will grow up to become uneducated youths who face poverty due to unemployment. They will fail to afford the basic amenities of life such as food, clothing and shelter. Their next generation will be same as them living a precarious life devoid of prosperity. The nation having these uneducated youths can never progress in future. The economic, political, social and cultural development will be at stake. Besides, this, women education should be immensely given equal importance. Students in every country should be provided free and fair education upto 10+2 level so that they acquire the basic knowledge in all subjects. Education develops positive outlook of every individual towards the society. Educated youths can employ themselves and earn a decent living. By doing so they encourage the others educate themselves. Education promotes multiculturalism by removing social and cultural barriers. Free education enables access to pursue college degrees where students can take up subjects of their own interest. Loans or credit given to students enable them to pursue higher education. By providing free education, the nation can get skilled workforce for serving the public and private sectors.
Policies to provide free education in India:
The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is a flagship programme by Indian government to provide free and compulsory education to students in the age group of 6-14 years with an aim to achieve Universalization of Elementary education. Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhijan was launched by the Indian government with an aim of achieve Universalization of Secondary Education by providing free education to students in the age group of 14-18 years. Besides providing free education, textbooks, uniforms, mid-day meals are provided in order to reduce the drop-out rates.
