Delhi Essay: Delhi earlier known as Indraprastha is the capital of India and one of the oldest cities in the country. It is positioned on the right side of the Yamuna river and is the heart of the city, divided into two parts: Old Delhi and New Delhi. Moreover, it is a metropolitan city as it houses different cultures and races. The Mughal Empire ruled Delhi from 1649 to 1857 and in the year 1900, it is the British rulers who decided to make Delhi, the capital of India. Also, the Tomara and the Chauhan dynasty ruled Delhi in the medieval era from 736 to 1193. In the Sultanate period, the city became prominent for nurturing a wide variety of cultures.

As opined by a legend, Delhi was named after Raja Dhilu who conquered the region during the 1st century BCE. The various names by which the city is known are Dehli, Dilli, and Delhi.
Delhi has one of the greatest urban agglomerations which runs about 100 miles south of the Himalayas. The city is bound by Uttar Pradesh in the east and to the south, north and west are bounded by the state of Haryana. The city of Delhi is of immense historical significance for being the commercial, cultural and transport hub and also the political centre of India. Moreover, it is also the core of the emergence of mighty empires. In Delhi, Mughal Architecture has emerged as the major form of Indo-Islamic architecture. It is mainly marked by bulbous domes and the buildings are made of red sandstone and white marble, intricate ornamentation work and bounded by lush green gardens on all four sides. Some of the famous architectural buildings of Delhi are the Taj Mahal, Humayun’s Tomb, Qutub Minar, Agrasen Ki Baoli., Jama Masjid, Isa Khan’s Tomb, Tughlaqabad fort, Bhool Bhulaiya, Alai Minar, Sher Mandal and many others to name a few.
Delhi’s climate is marked by extreme aridness along with intense scorching summers. The summer season begins in March and extends will the end of June. Contrary to it, the coldest month is the month of January while the months of October and November feature a transition period from the monsoon to winter conditions.
The current population of Delhi is 32,941,000 an increase of 2.73 per cent from 2022. In other words, the city covers an area of 1,484 square kilometres. Immigrant communities are often found in this place, for instance, Chanakyapuri, Karol Bagh and Chittaranjan Park. The religious composition of Delhi is also diverse comprising Sikhs, Jains, Christians, Buddhists and Hindus.
Delhi is a cosmopolitan city wherein it embraces new lifestyles and new ideas. The same amount of vigour is found among people while celebrating festivals of different communities. People are mainly engaged in service sectors, financial sectors and manufacturing sectors for their livelihood.

To conclude it can be said that Delhi, one of the oldest cities and the capital of India has gained prominence due to its cosmopolitan nature. In addition, it abounds in the rich heritage and has even housed foreign immigrants. As regards the population, it is expected to boom in the next five years, which is obviously a growing concern. However, it will continue to be the hub of trade and manufacturing and expand in the same manner as it is prospering now.
