Drone technology is it a substitute for manned aircrafts? Essay : Drone technology is a remotely piloted aerial system which can be of the size of a small toy helicopter or a big hawk like designed with 4 to 5 fans attached to it and a remote-controlled device to control the drone from a distance. It is made of light weight material so that it can be flown at a height. It also includes high definition cameras to keep and eye from the sky level in surrounding regions. The remote controller device which controls the drone is fitted with a screen to display the exact location of the drone and also able to view through the drone cameras from the sky on the surroundings areas.

Applications of Drones

Defence purpose: Drone has been developed for military and targeting and spying enemies from a far range through radio signals. Drone can be used to attacked manned aircrafts as well if they are fitted with well equipped missile of bullet launchers. Drones are used to target terrorist and to spy their activities and movements from far range.

Reporting and Journalism: Drone are being used by reports to gather valuable information from far distance to get a closer view of happenings, like for example a fire breakout, an accident or even natural calamities which cannot be or not allowed to be viewed from a closer range.

Rescue operations: Drone technology is being used for search and rescue operations as well, specially when natural calamities strike, like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, where rescue team finds it difficult to search for affected causalities, the use of drone makes it possible to locate these causalities from a far range.

Scientific research and archaeology: Drones are able to conduct research activities, like the US National Ocean and Atmospheric administration are using Aerosonde and unmanned aircraft to monitor hurricane situations and other atmospheric calamities and conditions. Archaeologist also have been using drone technology to conduct survey of land and mining areas.

Courier or Cargo Transportation: Drone technology is being used to transport cargo items like medicines, food supplies in famine affected regions. Amazon and Zomato also plans to start its delivery services through drone technology. This will eliminate fuel cost and reduce manpower cost.

Limitations of Drone

Limited Capacity: Drones are able to carry minimal weight due to its light material used to prepare them. Drones can be easily destroyed due to its delicate light weight material.

Expensive:  Drones can be expensive if the components used are to make them ready for military purpose or combat use. This will require strong enforced material and better security of data collected. The Drones will have been made in such a way that they can be hidden from radio signals of enemy satellites.

Conclusion:

Drone technology has proven to minimise manpower, fuel cost and provide valuable data at peak positions and locations. Drone technology can be a substitute to manned aircraft to a certain extent but cannot fully replace the manned aircraft due to its limited capacities, slow speed and can be misused for hacking and invading privacy of individuals and the country.
