Difference between Retrovirus and Bacteriophage

Difference between Retrovirus and Bacteriophage are in tabular form below –

No.

Retrovirus

Bacteriophage

Meaning

1. Retrovirus is a virus which contain DNA polymerase enzyme. Bacteriophage is a virus which mainly infect bacteria.

Biosynthesis

2. In the DNA viruses, biosynthesis takes place in the nucleus. AND In the RNA viruses, biosynthesis takes place in the cytoplasm. In this group of viruses, biosynthesis takes place in the cytoplasm.

Transcriptase enzyme

3. In the retroviruses, reverse transcriptase enzyme is present. In the Bacteriophage, reverse transcriptase enzyme is absent.

Single or double Stranded

4. The retrovirus is composed of single stranded positive sense RNA. The Bacteriophage is composed of Single stranded or Double stranded RNA or DNA genome.

                                                        Attached

5. In this retrovirus, it is attached to the plasma membrane proteins and glycoproteins. In the bacteriophage, tail fibers are attached to the cell wall proteins.

Capsid uncoating

6. In the retrovirus, capsid uncoating is required. In the bacteriophage, capsid uncoating is not required.
