Difference between Polyatomic molecule and Diatomic molecule
Polyatomic molecule |
Diatomic molecule |
The molecules which is composed by more than two atom this molecule known as polyatomic molecule. |
The molecule which is composed by only two atoms this molecule is known as diatomic molecule. |
The chemical species which contain three atoms or more atoms of same or different elements then it is polyatomic. |
The chemical species which contain two atom of the same or different element then it is diatomic. |
“poly” means many. |
“Di” means two. |
The molecules is composed by two or more covalently bonded atoms. It is referred as radical. |
Diatomic molecules composed by same elements are known as homo nuclear and The molecule composed by different elements are known as heteronuclear. |
Example of polyatomic molecules are:-
1) Peroxide 2) Bisulphate 3) Hydronium 4) Nitrite Etc. |
Example of diatomic molecules are :-
1) Hydrogen (H2) 2) Nitrogen 3) Oxygen 4) Chlorine Etc. |
