Difference between Paramagnetic and Diamagnetism
Magnetism is common and very important phenomenon which finds use in every field. In physics, Magnetism helps to understand the behaviour property of matter. The way a matter responds when placed in magnetic field give rise to different type of magnetic materials like paramagnetic or diamagnetic. Thus, it can be concluded saying that matter and magnetism phenomenon is closely related to each other.In the case of diamagnetic substances, the magnetic moments of atoms and the orbital magnetic moments have been oriented in such a manner that the vector sum of an atom’s magnetic moment becomes zero.

1) Paramagnetic substances are weakly attracted to external magnetic field.
2) Paramagnetic materials have at least one unpaired electron in the system. 3) Magnetic susceptibility of paramagnetic substances positive and small. 4) In external non-uniform magnetic field, it tends to move from the stronger part to the weaker part of the field. 5) The paramagnetic material gets aligned along the direction of the field. 6) Attraction of magnetic lines towards the centre. 7) In the paramagnetic substance relative permeability is greater than one i.e.˃1 8) Examples of paramagnetic substances like Calcium, oxygen, aluminium, tungsten, platinum etc.
