1. A structure which helps to produce male gametes in plants and in algae is called as Male gametophyte. A structure which helps to produce female gametes in plants and in algae is called as Female gametophyte.
2. Male gametophyte contains three cells and all the cells are functional. Female gametophyte contains eight cells and only two cell from all are functional.
3. Male gametophyte is derived from the pollen grain or microspore. Female gametophyte is derived from the megaspore.
4. Male gametophyte originates inside the microsporangium. Female gametophyte originates inside the megasporangium.
5. Male gametophyte contains two phases of growth. Female gametophyte contains single phase of growth.
6. Motility of the gametes in male gametophyte shows that gametes are highly motile. Motility of the gametes in female gametophyte shows that gametes are less motile.
7. Mature form of male gametophyte in angiosperms shows that they are three celled. Mature form of female gametophyte in angiosperms shows that they are seven celled.
