Difference between LED and Solar cell

The LED and solar cells both are different at their position and working but the light energy and electric energy make them interrelated because LED (a special purpose pn junction diode) the light emitting diode emits light when electric field applied to it and thr solar cell gives us electric field when it absorb light energy and convery it into electric field. The light emitting diode or LED is nothing but the diode that converts some of the energy of electron hole recombination into light. A Solar cell which is also know as photovoltaic cell absorbed light from sun and convert it in a p-n junction directly to electricity by the photovoltaic effect. LED is heavily doped pn junction diode. The energy released from light emitting diode is equal to energy gap. By combination of both logics in todays erathere are LED solar cells are available. The difference between them is as follows

                                 LED                           Solar Cell
1) Light emitting diode convert electric energy into light energy.

2) The light emitting diode emits light as it a light source.

3) The light emitting diode emits light when it is in forward bias.

4) LED is special purpose pn junction diode.

5) The pn junction area of light emitting diode is very small.

6) Light emitting diode has long life.

1) Solar cell convert light energy into electric energy.

2) Solar cell is like a battery as it supply DC power.

3) When the diode in a solar cell is oprates in fourth quadrant it genrates power.

4) Solar cell is not special purpose pn junction diode.

5) The pn junction area of solar cell is large.

6) Solar cell has quite short life than light emitting diode.
