Difference between Fresnels diffraction and Fraunhofer diffraction
In simple words the diffraction is the bending of light due to a obstacle. The Fresnels diffraction and Fraunhofer diffraction both are the type of diffraction. The Fresnels diffraction is also know as near field diffraction in this type of diffraction when the wave is passing from the apperture the it will diffract in then near field. The Fraunhofer diffraction is also know as far field diffraction beacuse in this type of diffraction the light sources and the screen is considered at infinite distance. The distance between the source, obstacle and screen is finite in the Fresnels diffraction. Tye distance between the source, obstacle and screen is infinite in the Fraunhofer diffraction. The difference between the Fraunhofer diffraction and Fresnels diffraction is as follows
Fresnels diffraction | Fraunhofer diffraction |
1) The Fresnels diffraction is also know as near field diffraction.
2) In Fresnels diffraction when the wave is passing from the apperture then it will diffract in the near field. 3) In Fresnels diffraction the distance between source, obstacle and the screen is finite. 4) In Fresnels no lens are required to study Fresnels diffraction. 5) The incident and diffracted wavefronts both are either cylindrical or spherical. 6) The diffraction pattern of Fresnels diffraction are changes.
