Difference between Convergence and divergence

Difference between Convergence and divergence

Convergence of rays

1.) When number of parallel rays falls on concave mirror after reflection all the rays appears to be collected at the same point on principal axis, this is called convergence of reflected rays.

2.) The point on principal axis, where the convergence of reflected rays takes place is known as focus of concave mirror.

3.) Due to the ability of producing the convergence of rays, concave mirror is also called as converging mirror.

4.) Following figure shows the convergence of reflected rays by concave mirror,

5) During convergence energy and intensity of all rays gets concentrated at the same point.

6) The property of convergence of reflected rays is used in device like solar cooker, where the intensity of light is increased which helps to cook food faster.

Divergence of rays

1.) When number of parallel rays falls on convex mirror after reflection all the rays appears to be move away from the same point on principal axis, this is called divergence of reflected rays.

2.) The point on principal axis, where the divergence of reflected rays takes place is known as focus of convex mirror.

3.) Due to the ability of producing the divergence of rays, convex mirror is also called as diverging mirror.

4.) Following figure shows the divergence of reflected rays by convex mirror,

5) During convergence energy and intensity of all rays gets distributed in different direction.

6) The property of divergence of reflected rays is used in device like CCTV cameras where we can increase the area of survelliance.
