1. When an organisms produce their own food from inorganic compounds to obtain materials which are needed for growth, repair, energy and regulation, this is known as Autotrophic nutrition. When all the animals and non-green plants which are dependent on green plants for organic or natural food, To obtain materials which are needed for growth, repair, energy and regulation, this is known as Heterotrophic nutrition.
2. All the organisms of autotrophic nutrition can prepare their own food. All the organisms of heterotrophic nutrition cannot prepare their own food.
3. In the autotrophic mode of nutrition, raw materials are necessary. In the heterotrophic mode of nutrition, raw materials are not necessary.
4. In the autotrophic nutrition, green pigment (Chlorophyll) is present. In the heterotrophic nutrition, green pigment (Chlorophyll) is absent.
5. Following are the examples of autotrophic nutrition:
