Degree of Comparison for Class 1 – 5, 6 – 8 and 9, 10 Students

Degree of comparison indicates the comparison between two words or among many words.

Examples:-

1.) Blue pen is better than red pen.

Here, blue pen is being compared with red pain.

2.) She is the most talented girl in her class.

Here, “most” is a comparison of superlative.

3.) Rose is prettier than Lily.

Here, rose is being compared with lily.

Types of degree of comparison

1.) Positive degree

Positive degree indicates the qualities of a person or thing which are equal to one another. It usually used to compare in combined.

Examples:-

1.) Cloud is as white as milk.

Here, words or things are compared equally so it is a positive degree of comparison.

2.) A bike is as fast as a car.

Here, bike and car are compared as equal.

3.) Red pole is as tall as the blue pole.

Here, red pole and blue pole are compared equal.

2.) Comparative degree

Comparative degree indicates there is a comparison between two persons or things.

Examples:-

1.) Rahul is smarter than Priya.

Here, Rahul and priya are compared with each other where one is superior to another.

2.) Maira is beautiful than Divya.

Here, Maira and Divya are compared with each other where one is superior to another.

3.) Vikas is taller than Roshan.

here, Vikas and Roshan are compared with each other where one is superior to another.

3.) Superlative degree

Superlative degree indicates where are more than two persons or things are being compared.

Examples:-

1.) This is the hottest place ever.

Here, “hottest” word is showing superlative degree.

2.) This stone is heaviest in all.

Here, “heaviest” word is showing superlative degree.

3.) Some channels show latest news.

Here, “latest” word is showing superlative degree.

Conclusion

Degree of comparison simply compares between the given words.
