Compound

A Compound  is a substance made up of two or more elements chemically combined in a fixed proportion by mass. OR

A compound is defined as pure substance made up of two or more elements chemically combined together in fix proportion by mass.

Example: water, carbon dioxide,  table salt (Sodium chloride),  calcium carbonate etc.

Water: (H2O)

Water is a Pure compound made up of two molecules of hydrogen and one molecule of Oxygen Chemically combined together in a fixed proportion that is 1:8 by mass.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) :

Carbon dioxide is a Compound made up of one elements of carbon and two elements of oxygen chemically combined together in a fixed proportion that is 3:8.

Sodium chloride (NaCl)

Sodium chloride is a pure compound made up of two molecules of sodium and chloride chemically combined together in a fixed proportion that is 23:35.5 by mass.

Properties of Compound :

  • A compound is always made up of same elements combined together in a fixed proportion by mass for example water compound is made up of fixed ratio that is 1:8 same by mass.
  • A compound can not separate by simple physical method.
  • Energy in form of heat or light is usually evolved or absorbed when a compound is formed.
  • A compound has a definite molecular formula and fixed melting and boiling point.
  • A compound is homogenous substance.
  • A Chemical compounds is formed as a result of chemical change or chemical reaction  and its properties or product properties  is different from reactant.

Question Answer:

1) What is Compound?

Answer:A compound is defined as pure substance made up of two or more elements chemically combined together in fix proportion by mass.

2) What are the example of compound?

Answer: Example of compound are water, carbon dioxide,  table salt (Sodium chloride),  calcium carbonate etc.

3) Write the properties of compound?

Answer: Properties of compound are following.

4) Why water is a compound?

Answer:  Water is a compound because  Water made up of two molecules of hydrogen (H2) and one molecule of Oxygen (O) Chemically combined together in a fixed proportion that is 1:8 by mass. When is fixed proportion water molecules can formed, other wise if in this ratio few difference occur water cannot be form.
