Lesson 14 Chemical Effects of Electric Current
Que. 1) Fill in the blanks .
1) Most liquid that conduct electricity are solutions of —-,—-and —–
Ans- acids, base and salts.
2) Metals are good conductors of electricity.
Ans- good
3) Chromium has —— appearance.
Ans- shiny.
Que . 2) Answer the followings questions.
1) Define electroplating.
Ans- The process of deposing a layer of any desired metal on another material by means of electricity is called Electroplating.
2) Explain electroplating of metals.
Ans- The process of deposing a layer of any desired metal on another material by means of electricity is called electroplating. It is one of the most common application of chemical effects of electric current. Electroplating is a very useful process. It is widely used in industry for coating metal objects with a thin layer of a different metal. The layer of a metal deposited has some desired property, which the metal of the objects lacks.
3) Short note on LED.
Ans- LED stands for light emitting diode. LED is glows even weak electric current flows through it. There are two wires attached to an LED. One lead is slightly longer than the other. While connecting to a circuit to the positive terminal of the battery and shorter lead is connected to the negative terminal of the battery. They are used for night lighting, art lighting, outdoors lighting etc.
4) Potato shows flow of electricity?
Ans- yes, potato show flow of electricity.
5) Why zinc is coated on iron?
Ans- a coating of zinc is deposited on iron because protection of iron from corrosion and formation of rust.
